Total noob, and I’ve been ALL over the Web just to learn how to ask the right question. I got my PSA AR-9 PCC (complete, stock blemish deal) and took to the range. Magpul 15rd magazines with Blazex Brass 115g. First 5 clips or so just great, impressed with the accuracy. Then suddenly I started getting one shot, round seems to load fine, but the trigger is not cocked. Eject, repeat, one shot, loaded next round, but not cocked. Tried several mags, same thing. Removed the BCG just because had no idea what else to do, put back in, and worked fine for my next 2 clips (the same that I tried before) and I had to leave. So…I need to clean it and return to the range again, but what should I be prepared to do if the prob repeats? All my reading seems this is a less common FTCycle, possibly what you call hammer follow. I’ve seen a lot of talk about changing the buffer weight/spring both for and against. If it happens again what should be my next step? Love the gun when it works, but it’s also for HD so I can’t afford this kind of thing. Thanks in advance!
1: what size magpul mag? I am not a fan of anything over 15rd. Magpul tried a “one size fits all” but lots of issues being reported.
2: put your finger in the ejection port. If you can push the bcg back more than 1/4" from the follower you need to add a different buffer (like an extended one if you dont have one) or a buffer spacer (nylon spacers at your local hardware co are about $.50)
3: what ammo and were you trying different ammo?
4: did you lube it good (they are meant to run REALLY WET).
welcome to the forums @ZFG1 !
as GUitar Guy states … i’d second him on the cleaning oand running it really wet. I’d also try genuine Glock Magazines instead of the magpul ones. I just dont trust them as much as i do the OEM glock mags. and of course check out the ejection port like GG says. i hope that helps.
Some people say to spray the bolt carrier liberally with something like Rem Oil, personally I use white lithium and put a thin coat all over the BCG.
I’m thinking your bolt is short stroking, hence no trigger reset?
Is the buffer spring seated on the buffer securely? I’ve been doing this a day or two, and I failed to get that once. Some of the springs just “drop” on - some you have to twist it on tight to seat it.
Random Binding in the buffer tube will Absolutely make the BCG short-stroke. A little oil on the spring/tube wall won’t hurt anything, either.
Thanks for the input! The buffer and spring were/are seated. I didn’t run the bcg “wet” based on a cleaning vid I saw, so I’ll def make sure it’s wet and the buffer/sling lubricated. I’ll have to get back to the range soon to test this out.
Pretty sure it’s short stroking, just not why it’s doing it.
15 rd magpuls. I’ve cleaned all meticulously (new gun so not terribly dirty) and left the BCG really wet this time. Weighed the buffer tube and it’s maybe on the heavier side at 5.57oz. I’ll also pick up a Glock mag just to be safe. Then I’ll run a couple hundred thru to see how it works and (maybe?) loosen the spring up a bit.
Thx again and I’ll report to the group on results. (One thing this has done is forced me to learn the gun mechanics much quicker than I would have. )
