My daughter was griping about how she had to train new hires on basic computer skills in her medical office. I told her that everyone wants to do things on their phone now and PC skills are in the dumpster. Just throwing a topic out for comments.

I personally don’t like doing “important” things on a phone or tablet. Buying stuff, paying bills, logging into work things, sending e-mails, etc.
I’ve abandoned having a tower PC and monitor setup, been a long time since that, but I still have a couple MacBooks around for all that stuff. Just doesn’t feel right doing it all on the phone…but I’m probably teetering right on the age line of refusing to adapt to the most modern of technologies (42, close to 43.)
I can still work myself around a full PC setup just fine if I have to, though. That was a core part of schooling when I was young. Most people just entering the workforce at 18-24 years old were probably educated on tablets similarly to how I was on towers.
I started out on MSDOS years ago. Built my own PC’s and taught my kids how to work on them. I’m a PC guy for serious stuff. Just use the cell phone for simple tasks. I’m 67 now. Hard to believe how much society lives around a phone.
Still prefer my laptop.
Built one with a SCCSSI (sp) once, dual hard drives. She was the cream version f the crop for a while.
No way, I rarely use phone at home. Can’t see any decent images on cellphone. Zooming in on everything. Phone is fine waiting on oil change.
Oh and like Don said important things never happen on my phone.

Our High School’s early 1980’s “Computer Lab” consisted of a half-dozen (donated) Apple II-e’s, twenty Smith-Corona electric typewriters, an IBM Selectric typewriter, and an IBM Wordstation Word-Processor.
After I started playing around with “unauthorized” code on the Apples, I was thenceforth Forbidden to touch them ever again. I think the movie “War Games” went hurtling through the minds of every single teacher and Administrator in the school.
I literally didn’t touch another computer until 1994, when one of the places I was working for in Temp-jobs taught me to use the Macs in their Shipping department, to track what I loaded into the truck.
I don’t know how many PCs I have had since, all long gone. I [now] have a Thinkpad and my iClown 16, which does the bulk of virtually everything I need related to Online. I barely even use the company Dell POS Laptop; most of that’s relegated to my iClown.
I’m only a few short years away from 60 and Obsolescence myself - probably by then all my Anarchic Attitudes will have caught up to me, and I will be put up-against the Wall alongside the New-Age Bolsheviks.
Cheaper that way.

I have an HP circa 2012 ( I think) that is now Win10 quad core Athlon, 16GB, 1 TB HDD - 27" Monitor at home. Bought new RAM about a year ago, had a module go out a couple times and the whole thing would not boot. Learned to remove one stick at time and see if it boots. Then just run on 12 G til I got a replacement. Got tired of that and bought all new.
You can legally bypass TPM2 and min 4G RAM (laptops) and install WIN 11:

I still use my laptop for most work stuff. My home desktop (i built in 2007) still runs Call of Duty.
I have a cheap flip phone. Make calls, receive calls, and kinda text. Works for me. It’s fun watching the reactions of people when I tell them I don’t have a smartphone.
I have never seen the Forum full screen on PC, phone only so far. Is there a big difference on UI between the two, besides screen size?
P.S. I have ordered every gun purchase since 2018 on my phone. And a lot of other stuff, never an issue.
The topic wasn’t against cell phones, but how PC skills are fading. You can’t use your phone in office environments that require PC skills. New hires are not even able to “cut and paste”, format, etc. But people are so locked up with their phones, even on Youtube arrest videos, they won’t put it down being handcuffed!
Yes, far easier to navigate with PC. I suppose if you are used to seeing it on phone no big deal. But not much fun for me reading on phone.
