High vs Low quality AR-15

yall would be surprised how many companys buy parts fromo other companies and use them in their guns… so those that are botique and expensive may very well be using the very same parts that you would get in your standard run of the mill AR… yall would be even more surprised to know how many companies that psa supplies parts to as well… lol

I get what he’s saying about that latest batch of Colt’s.

I bought 6920 and put beside the other 3 Colt’s in the Toy Box , its clearly a lessor product. The Rollmarks are pathetic. Ive seen far better Forgeries in the wild.

But in all honesty: a PSA enhanced 2 stage trigger blows the EPT trigger out of the water and a Geissele SSA-E is better than both. A nitrided PSA barrel is just fine but a BA hanson premium .223 wylde with a pinned gas block will shoot a little better and the pinned block leaves one less thing to worry about. A birdcage muzzle device works great for $10 but a Lantac Dragon or VG6 Gamma will reduce recoil much better. A PSA lower is just fine but a BAD Workhorse lower has couple extra trinkets that you don’t need like a captive take-down pin detent and spring and the ability to adjust upper/lower fit. I completely trust and respect my PSA stuff but there are better things out there. That being said, if I had $5000 to spend, I could build a really nice AR with a decent optic for $1500, and spend the rest on 20 PMAGS and 7500 rds of decent brass 5.56 ammo. I will continue to scoff at a $200 price difference between a PSA complete milspec lower and a Spikes complete milspec lower. Put your $$ where it means the most.

I have been dying to build a cheap retro CAR-15, I just wish I liked direct impingement firearms.

well check out the H&R stuff… theyre the kings of the retro world once they get everything out there.

That is a very conflicting statement GO.

They do fine in small incriments so far…Kings not exactly? So far the numbers are few and infrequent…hardly lofty or king like . That’s an over the Top statement at present.

Give it time , they’ll own the market if they don’t forget whom their customers are?

I was impressed with my first purchase…but not about the availability or the Back in Stock notification system.

Being a King is an Encompassing task Amigo… you have to earn it in all respects.

Rather than waiting on another H&R M16A1 Stripped Lower , or heaven forbid a Stripped Upper from them, I have opted to build a note for note forgery of the 1st M16A1 I was assigned at a Permanent Duty Station . I still have my Arms Room Card from 1981 with the Rifles Serial Number , that will be replicated. I won’t go into further details for obvious reasons.

You made me look in my files for my stuff from USMAPS in 74.
Found my weapons cards for both my m16a1 as well as my 22 hi-standard match I was issues for the Pistol team. Interesting Idea on your custom build…
I have been watching HR as well looking to get lucky.

well i fyou were familliar with NODAK SPUD, you’d be happy to know that it is now morphed into H&R, and since NODAK produced the absolute best retro lowers, including finishes on the uppers and lowers and charging handles and etc etc… you’d be thrilled to know that they are going to produce that stuff under the H&R moniker. thats what i was saying… just that H&R isnt totally up and running yet with all that nodak had, and much much more.
thats all

NODAK SPUD…Yes I’m familiar…and Yes I own some of their works in my Retro builds. They indeed make fine products. That part is a Given.

Your Kings comment ad nauseum and put down the Pom Poms was just too much of an over exageration in terms of the business they are running at present. I think what Mike is doing and intends to do are great…when they do it in a fashion that Serves All …we’ll talk Kings. Right now they are too short on deliverable items…the first item. The A1 and Parts for the A1

Right now H&R is still a relocated NODAK SPUD in terms of what they can produce .

Yes… I have Nodak stuff…and I’ve lucked into One H&R Lower Receiver all good stuff…but there is more to it than that.

Until they get to producing in numbers that don’t Sell Out completely in 5 minutes. Thus leaving loyal customers angry time after time…or until they fix the Notification of Stock system and stop pandering to the ARFCom crowd they are just a Novelty in the JJE Empire as far as I see it.

Now if you want to talk about Kings in a marketplace, PSA itself has done a pretty reasonable job in that regard.

I’d rather own a PSA Product than any other 2nd Tier brand out there. Regarding AR-15’s only. I cant say I’m keen on their house brand Pistols…I just have Zero interest there.

I’m a Gun Guy… buying solely based on price is Not my first concern using the Glock Vs. Dagger comparison. I’d never take a Dagger over the genuine article because of price…I’m certainly not starting now.

My loyalty is earned…not given freely to serve a master. PSA as an AR Supplier has earned my respect. I hope H&R will in time.

Promises made and Promises kept are not always going to go as planned or advertised. You have to wait and see.

So, my “low quality” new rifle works. I think. I managed to get a whole magazine through it before the range officer pretty much asked me to put it away because I had no sights. He didn’t seem to get that I wasn’t trying to sight it in, just see if my little Frankenrifle would stay assembled under pressure. I got far more unsolicited attention than everyone else combined, including the guys who carried unsecured firearms behind the firing line. I drive past a range to get to this range. I just may drive less next time.

I picked up a AR at a FFL with a indoor range and they would not allow me to shoot it because of no sights.

In my lifetime I’ve shot indoors one time.

In my lifetime I’ve never shot anywhere that had an RSO.

I shot indoors once at a public pistol range in Millington, TN when I was in the Corps stationed at Millington NAS. First time I shot a desert eagle 50 cal (rented it from them). That was around 1990.

There’s an outdoor range I could try. It’s triple the distance. Might be worth it.

This is a great video from brass facts. He speaks about what makes a premium ar company. He makes many of the same points made here. Good honest YouTube person. The Sabre Series: Can PSA do Premium? - YouTube

im glad that we agree that nodak did make fine products when they were in business. Now that Mike is ceo o H&R he has full control of where to tell folks things are being released and so far i guess hes chosen Arfcom to do that. The notification thing is a psa website shortcoming, as we all know it takes an hour of it being in stock before it even sends out the emails saying it was and by then IF the email gets sent out it ususally will sell out immediately. As for increasing the production, that is in the works, but it takes time to buy more machines and set them up, which is probably whats happening right now, as we cant expect PSA to shut down more than a few of them from PSA’s main products to start producing H&R’s.

i can understand about the pistol situation, however they also produce 1911s, which i have purchased and they are well made. i have regular glocks as well as the dagger, and gen 3 to gen 3, i’d take a dagger hands down. not just because of the price, either.
I agree, loyalty has to be earned, and with me, it has been many many times over… and not just via what they produce either. I hope for you as well that it will be earned via H&R in time as well. I think that is the right way to go about things.

Three months later doesn’t mean three months old. Mine says 1 day old. Unless I’m misreading it the post is 3 months after the one in March above it.

April, May, June is 3 months by Alabama math
