I noticed that my ARV runs like garbage without generous amounts of oil. My first time out, I put lots of oil on it and it ran flawlessly. My second time out, I forgot to oil it and I had tons of misfeeds.
That’s probably true of any direct blow back AR9 but this is the first one that I have owned. Is that everyone else’s experience? I’ve gotten spoiled by my DI AR’s with DLC (Dimond Like Carbon) coatings on the BCG. I never put oil on them and I have never had a failure. I get the mystic black coated BCG from cryptic coatings. A little pricey but worth every penny. With no oil, they have a coefficient of friction of .01. A milspec BCG with no oil has a coefficient of friction of .6 - .8 Ice on steel has a coefficient of friction of .02. So the Mystic Black coatings are crazy slippery and very reliable. I am thinking that I would get another ARV BCG and get a DLC coating on it. I emailed Cryptic Coatings to see if they do that kind of custom work but haven’t heard back. Does anyone here know of a place that will do custom one off DLC coating? Also will Palmetto sell me an ARV BCG by itself?

Several companies offer high temp ceramic coatings for performance automobile stuff, you can look at going that route.
im pretty sure you can buy a PSA ar9 bcg and be happy with it to coat… i’d have to double check my arv to ensure its the same bcg as my ar9 bcg… but im not at a place where i can do that right now.
I thought that the AR-V BCG is unique from other AR9s because it takes Scorpion mags not glock. If they are the same then that would be easy. Lots of places sell AR9 BCGs in any coating you want.
So I found out that cryptic coatings does not do custom projects. You have to buy one of their premade BCGs. They do have 9mm BCGs for ARs that take glock mags but not for the AR-V. I found another place called DNA Firearms Systems. They will coat the AR-V BCG with DLC (thats a lot of letters) for $100. Im going to try it.

What does it do with the inside of a non coated upper?
There used to be Daggers with their slide DLC coated (?), but I haven’t heard much about it for a while. Rather than oil, you’d probably be better off with grease for lubrication; something like Lucas gun grease, CherryBalmz, or others that are formulated for semi-auto firearms. All AR-type weapons need to be well lubricated all the time and oil comes off a little too easily.
You don’t need to coat the upper. The DLC just allows for the BCG to move with less friction
