I knew I wasn’t going crazy! I was thinking of that book but couldn’t think of a name. I remember reading it years ago. I may need to reread it now
I read it the first time in 1st or 2nd grade - I loved the idea of doing what Sam did in that book.
(Once I learned sufficiently how to read in 1st Grade, I read everything I could get my hands on - I actually got in trouble with the 1st grade teachers for reading the “spare” 2nd through 6th grade reading and history books stored in the 1st grade classroom - they actually took them and locked them away in a closet to get them away from me, but it was too late!)
Teachers in my neck of the woods helped in that time-freame.
My Aunt Doris was the Head Research Librarian for USF Tampa.
She would give me Hot Rod and Car Craft subscriptions when I was a boy just getting excited about cars.
She forgered my world of voracious reading.
