KNS Piston vs. Definitive Arms DAG-13

Greetings Group,

New to the AK Platform from being a Gucci AR15 Owner for years. I purchased a PSA AK-P and of course $1,000+ parts to Gucci it out…lol. Photos to come soon!

All my AR15’s are suppressed and all have factory adjustable gas blocks. On the AR Platform I like softing the gas out, down to failure to cycle, then turn it back out a little and you have a sewing machine just cranking out rounds with little recoil.

I will be running a YHM R2 on the PSA AK-P, so naturally I began exploring gas options and see the internet is split into two camps, half recommend the KNS Piston and the other half the DAG-13, each have their Pro’s and Con’s.

So a few questions for the experts out there.

  • KNS Piston, its easy to install but adjustment means pulling the bolt assembly out every time.
  • DAG-13, needs to be pressed on but allows easy adjust without disassembly, and looks sexy!

When I watch YouTube videos about the KNS Piston, people are having to run them full gas to cycle the weapon so almost seems pointless in the first place?

Does a suppressed AK-P even need gas adjustment?

I suppress my 104, and have only added a shock buffer. AK’s are overgassed to begin with, and suppressed can make it work. I ordered a dust cover seal to help with gas to the face and will try that when it comes in.

Pistons can help, but suppressors make gas come back down the barrel.

Thank you for the advice. I ordered a Blue Buffer Block from Arms of America. I figured since the AKP can with a booster to maintain back pressure, removing it and adding my can should at least main the same level of back pressure, but since I’m so used to running suppressed AR’s and having to turn the gas down on them I was not sure how the AK would run.
