Large powerful rotary tool

I know most of us have dremel or similar rotary tools. I have two small rotary tools. One is a well used but still running strong a Craftsman variable rotary tool with flex shaft that I have had for 20 years. I have a newer Dremel variable speed and a large combo kit that goes with it. Even with two rotary tools they just weren’t powerful enough to do many jobs that I wanted to use them to do. After a bunch of searching and reading reviews I decided on what I was going to buy.

I got the large Foredom SR variable reversable rotary tool off of Ebay and some accessories for a little less than $300. The SR has a 1/6 HP electric motor and runs up to 18,000RPM. The Newer SR motors have more power and runs smoother than the old Foredom motors. The SR has a foot pedal to regulate the speed that you are operatingthe tool at. I love this becauseit leaves both hands free to work with and you can easilyand quickly adjust the SR to whatever speed that you need.

The SR has several different handsets to use with the HD flex shaft. I have three different handsets to cover most projects that I need to do at times. There are a ton of different bits to use. I have one handset that will run all Dremel bits. The larger handset can run the larger bits and drill bits. If you do any type of gunsmithing, wood work, metal work, jewery or polishing you ought to look at the Foredom SR. The Foredom SR is a professional tool that many jewelers use. The SR is well made quality tool. I have had my SR for a couple of years now.

If you buy one I would suggest that you get several different handsets and several extra inner shaft of the flex shaft. If you are like me sometimes I ask too much and the inner flex shaft can break just like the ones in the Deremel flex shaft. They aren’t expensive and they are easy to swap out a broken one.

My brother’s wife designs and creates high end jewelry and uses a big flex shaft rotary tool for working and polishing items.

I end up using mine a lot. It just makes doing any type of gunsmithing easier. Also with the larger and more powerful rotary tool you will find uses for it that you have never thought of before.
