Let's Get Triggered - what are you running?

OK, relatively new to the AR-9 platform, bought one and built one. Want to upgrade the trigger. I prefer a two stage on my AR-15s, typically running a LaRue on everything. What do you recommend for the 9?

I ordered a Rise Rave 140 trigger that has yet to arrive and I came across some disturbing reviews online about the drop in…anyone have any experience with this trigger? Recommend a replacement.

many 9mm PCC’s do not work well with 2 stage triggers. While I prefer 2 stage triggers myself, my PSA AR9 uses an ALG ACT single stage trigger.

Part of me was questioning the need of a 2 stage on a PCC as well. I actually have one of those sitting in my parts bin. I am going to try it out (I have to stop buying stuff on sale for future builds - i forget what I have lol)

Check your bcg and see if it is ramped or unramped…then do your research.

yeah it’s ramped. Problem with research is it’s the internet - half the people love something and reasons why, the other half loathe it with the reasons why.

functionality > feelings

I’m partial to the CMC single stage PCC trigger. I have a half dozen of them, they are very consistent.

on my AR9 carbine that PSA gifted to me, they put in their 2 stage PSA trigger and it is amazing. in my ar9 Pistol i had built i ran a larue MBT only cause i couldnt find the PSA trigger as it was out of stock. My go to before PSA came out with their 2 stage trigger was the LaRue for 80 bucks. as its a heck of a deal for the price. Dont get me wrong, i have like 5 or 6 Geisselle triggers, various SSA-E , SD-C, etc etc, all 2 stagers, and but they’re so damn expensive if i dont get them at a severe discount or in a trade i just cant see buying them. I’ve also used the Hyperfire brand of triggers, even a AIM SSAT Single Stage trigger, the ALG QMS trigger, and belive it or not I love the PSA EPT for a single stage basic trigger… its a great trigger for the price and its NiBo coated to boot. I’ve got a POF EFP, A CMC Drop In 2 Stage Trigger, Hyperfire Hypertouch 243g 2 stage, 2.5lb pull trigger… so i’ve used a bunch of different trigggers in my stuff before… I still love the PSA 2 stage for price versus duty., however it is hard to beat geisselle and larue and the hyperfire. so there you have it for what its worth.

I may or may not have one with the PSA EPT and honestly feel no need to “upgrade” it. It’s really a smooth, crisp, sweet trigger.

Hey GCO, have you had any issues running Geisselle triggers on a PCC? I contacted Geisselle for a recommendation on my first PCC build and they told me that they didn’t recommend any of their AR triggers for a PCC. They said the blowback action will shorten the life of the hammer.

Correct. I use an ALG ACT on my pcc.

Man I really need to try one out. Built an ar9 about 8 months ago and still haven’t tried it out. I’m gonna have to leave the akv at home next week and give the ar a go. Oh and to stay on topic it’s a PSA single with a polish job. Feels good on the dry fire but I think it’s time to introduce it to carbon. Lol

i checked mine as well, and it is the ALG ACT in my ar-9 too.

Whelp the Rise 140 sh*t the bed today at the range - lol. Got about 650 rounds through it before it would not strike the primer hard enough to make boom regardless of mag brand or ammo type.

Thanks to Guitar Guy’s suggestion earlier in the thread I have an ALG ACT sitting in the spares box waiting patiently for this day to arrive.

I almost built an AR9 but heard too many feed issues. So instead got the PSA AK9 pistol. But with no brace its not as fun anymore. So I settled on one of the foldable PPC 9s which is not only trustworthy reliable but bug ready.

My AR-9 lower is stock. The only trigger I have ever changed on an AR platform is a Jewel trigger I put in on a very heavy barreled 5.56.

i grabbed two cmc pcc triggers,

uhm… where did all the gen4 pcc 9mm uppers disappear? i feel like i was really lucky i grabbed the few i did, really want some more 8”

Love those CMC PCC triggers!

I haven’t shopped for a PSA Gen4 PCC upper for a bit, are they all out of stock? I have a 8.5” version, it is a ton of fun to shoot!
I did score a BRN-9 upper from Aim Surplus on a BF sale. $350 for a monolithic pcc upper! It’s basically identical in function to my MAT-9 but with a shorter barrel (5.5 vs 7.8”).

Same yourself the hassle, buy a CZ Scorp with a brace. I am very sorry and broke from my AR9 build with feed and accuracy issues. I bought all premium parts for my build, and it is scrap. I could have bought a Sig MPX PCC for what I put into trying to make this firearm work. The few who build them with no issues should consider themselves very fortunate.

AR9s are extremely sensitive to parts. Just because you bought premium parts doesn’t mean they will work. If you really want it to work, Rudy at Macon Armory is the 9mm/pcc man to get anything working.
