Light strikes?

Has anyone else had any experiences with some random light strikes? I have about 800 rounds through one of my daggers and just now experienced a couple light strikes. Inspected everything and don’t see any damages. Was thinking about doing a skeletonized striker upgrade. Any recommendations? Both of mine have Timney Alpha triggers, ghost 6# firing pin spring, one with Zaffiri fluted barrel one with PSA barrel.

Light strikes are common it seems with the Alpha.

Yep, I saw a video on you-tube that the action of the Timney triggers caused light strikes.

What’s strange is, I put the Alphas in day 1. Had not had any issues until about 700 rounds or so. Just watched those videos. When I get off today I’ll look at the trigger bar and see if there is a line on it where the striker might be getting friction. Looks like new striker won’t fix that. But a polishing job should do the trick.

This is the video I watched. check it out.

Yup, same one I looked at.

Reminds me of modifying cars and having issues as a kid. My Grandfather would say “High performance cars have high performance problems” that was his nice way of saying “you should have left it the way it was”. Although I never listened to that advice. Modifying guns, cars, motorcycles, bicycles, etc is half the fun of the entire experience as a whole.

Agreed. Within reason of course.

Not sure if you figured it out but of you switched ammo, that could definitely be the culprit. I had a couple cases of white box S&B 9mm that had extremely hard primers. Not an issue with PCC or hammer-fired pistols but lots of issues in several striker-fired pistols. So, that ammo was used in my PCCs and CZs only. For the record, I’ve shot 10s of thousands of rounds of S&B 9mm ammo and those were the only cases with issues. Love that stuff otherwise!

I polished the top of the trigger bar where the striker goes over the top of it. There was a line on the trigger bar where the bottom of the striker that catches the seer was slightly rubbing. That took care of it. I did not grind anything off. Literally, just a polishing wheel on a Dremel was enough to reduce the friction.

The “drag line” you were seeing on the trigger bar is 100% normal. It’s not occurring when the firing pin is released as you may suspect, slowing down the firing pin and causing light strikes. Rather the firing pin is dragging after the round has already gone off and the slide is cycling.

When the slide cycles to the rear, the very first thing that happens is the disconnector is pushed aside by the lobe on the slide and the trigger bar pops up. Then as the slide cycles further, the firing pin rides on the top of the trigger bar (this is the dragging you’re seeing) and pushes it down and out of the way, until the slide cycles far enough for the firing pin to clear the trigger bar completely. The trigger bar then pops back up again waiting to be caught by the firing pin as the slide returns to battery so that the trigger can complete the reset.

Polishing the surface you’re referring to wouldn’t have any effect with regard to solving a light strike situation. If as you claim the issue has resolved, I suspect something else was at play.

Entirely possible. But ran through about 400 rounds and was 100% . No change in ammo. Will be going back out this weekend. To run another 400 through it.
