Longer handgard 4” AR-V

Looking for a longer handgard “4 AR-V. Is this mod possible, I haven’t picked up mine yet. I’d like to add a silencer and have it covered. If so any recommendations?

Several companies make rails you can tuck a can in. I have a 7" strike industries strike rail, 4" barrel. Waiting on my can to get out of jail. Midwest Industries also makes one, as does Samson (Evo) and Griffen Armament. You need to know the OD of the can you want and the ID of the rail. Most cans are 1.5" or smaller.

i wouldnt fire it without the can though. having the short barrel inside the handguard is dangerous without something to lengthen it to extend past the end of the handguard.

It’s just a 9mm. I have a 357 Sig AR with a 9 inch barrel and a 12 inch handguard. I fired it without the suppressor on it and it left black marks on my fingers for about a week. You feel the blast….but no cuts or burns. Worst part was the powder residue coming through the handguard and getting hit in the face with it…….gotta wear eye pro !

I used a grey colored….expended plastic tube…used for silicone to seal bathrooms and I sliced it length wise and I slid it inside the handguard. This was enough to protect your fingers from the blast and powder burns……if you find that you must shoot it without your suppressor.
Cost is minimal…it works….and you can throw it in the garbage can when your done….because the blast will begin to melt the tube.
It will bring a renewed appreciation to your suppressor.
It can be done……but using your suppressor is a much……much better solution.

I absolutely do not recommend doing that. Even if it “just a 9mm” putting your hand around, near, or in front of the muzzle is a recipe for disaster. Even using your little home made shield is not something I would even attempt. Reminds me of those with lasers on their handguns that check to see if the laser is working by shining it on their hand.

Even with it being a 9mm, you never know when you’re getting an overloaded or “hot” round. These rounds have been known to damage barrels, imagine what they could do to a thin rail that already has cuts in it. This is why its suggested to never fire a round if the muzzle device doesnt extend past the handguard.

Your ABSOLUTELY Correct…… I failed to emphasize….though it can be done……(I was inexperienced, & STUPID). One should NEVER put anything……adjacent to……or in front of the muzzle. l
I admit that I toyed around with this deficiency for a short time…trying to rationalize how to shoot this without my suppressor attached. It did not take long to confirm the VALUE of the suppressor underneath the hand guard. I MUST agree with GuitarGuy……
This is precisely why we are here on this forum. To share learned experiences with each other. What I learned from this was……USE the SUPPRESSOR.

im glad you learned the error of your ways before you harmed yourself, or a friend. All too often we only learn by mistakes that happen that are not reversible. I’ve seen horror pics of guys who’d done this with rifle calibers and had blown apart the handguard where it remained in front of the barrel. Imagine if that were your hand or worse off another body part.

Honestly….my stupidity did not include the thought or risk of a blown up hand guard…or even a bullet strike to the hand guard…that SHOULD have entered my mind………It was the the powder blasted backwards & sideways from the brake that was unavoidable that got my attention. The suppressor was the safest solution. I was inexperienced & naive……and I failed to recognize the danger until afterwards. We can look back at that and say “ I was lucky”. Today I look at life and shooting sports much differently……especially when any of my 6 sons are involved in it. Safety is paramount ! I have experienced a few events in my life where Death was highly likely. Our good lord ……for some reason unknown to me….has spared me . Now I am trying to live a bit more deliberate and cautious……that includes acknowledging shortcomings and passing on life’s experiences hoping others don’t make my mistakes.
