This past week, I was able to rent & shoot the M&P Carry Comp Compact (polymer frame) & HOL-LY CRAP!!! I like to brag on my Shadow Systems MR920P & how smooth/flat it shoots. And it DOES shoot smooth & flat. But since I’m now in the process of looking into guns that will be suitable for a dual role as my wife’s EDC & my travel gun (since I can’t open carry when I go outta town), the Carry Comp Compact, getting an XMacro Comp conversion kit & Icarus Precision AIR polymer grip module, & the soon-to-be-released Canik MC9 Prime, I wanted to check the Carry Comp off the list as far as having tried it out. I was FLOORED. SUPER comfy ergos & almost NO muzzle rise or felt recoil. While the uncomped M&Ps are, imo, the smoothest/softest shooting polymer striker guns on the market, the new Carry Comp feels like a pellet gun.
Now all that remains to be seen is if the wife likes it as far as its actual carry properties. Weight, length, & thickness of frame vs. the XMacro & MC9. I wanted at least 1 full-size frame on the list. If this ends up being the 1 she likes as well, then I’ll be grabbing an Eleven 71 Design plate (expensive but worth EVERY PENNY) & a Holosun 509T to put on it. If we go with the XMacro or MC9 Prime, hopefully the prices on the Sig Romeo X Enclosed Compact will have come down a bit by the time we’re ready to buy come spring.
thanks for the review. I’m not in the market for another gun, but i appreciate your analysis of how it shot and felt. it will open my options up next time i am in the market for a carry gun.
It was absolutely amazing! The other really cool thing about the Carry Comp models is that they redesigned the LCI, so it doesn’t blow carbon & kaka all over the lens of your optic. On a standard M&P, a Calculated Kinetics Dogtag plate is absolute MUST-HAVE to keep this from happening. And they do the job PERFECTLY, in addition to being all-round outstanding plate.
But now that they’ve redesigned the LCI on the Carry Comp to blow carbon put to the sides . From thr folks I’ve spoke with, there’s NO issue with dirty lenses. That being the case, I’ll happily to send more business to Eleven 71 Design. They’re a small, 1 man, 1 machine company based here in TN. The guy makes his plates put of titanium & his tolerances & craftsmanship are 2nd to none. I have his RMR plate for my PDP Pro, & it looks like an actual part of the gun. They’re pricey (my RMR PDP plate was $120 & they range from $110-$125), but for quality & craftsmanship THAT good on such an important piece of equipment, its worth it. Next time you need a plate, DEFINITELY check them out!
