Shadow Systems or Brownell's Slides for Dagger Builds

So I’ll freely admit that during my long & arduous “Quest for the Golden Gun,” I screwed up. I’m an idiot. Because the ONE THING, in my overwhelming zeal for a full-size pistol, that I DIDN’T account for, WAS WEIGHT!!! Now, don’t get me wrong. I LOVE my brand-spankin new PDP Pro SD Compact! LOVE IT. I posted some pics of my girl over in the non-PSA section. However, she’s HEAVY. And I can think of 3 other full-size guns that would’ve been lighter: the Canik Mete SFT Pro, the Echelon, & the Smith M2.0 9mm.

What makes me even MORE angry though is that I put close to $1600 into a gun that was supposed to be my owb edc. And now, after spending that much & having moved into a new house with a yard to fence, blinds to get, a driveway to seal, etc, my smaller & more reasonable (in size AND price) needs to wait til Aug.

SO, that being said, here are 2 of my ideas if I go the build route. 1 is an idea a nice guy on the Dagger Reddit sub pointed me to. Compact Dagger frame ($86 @ my local PSA distributor), Brownell’s gen 3 G19L slide & upper parts kit ($170), NDZ captured recoil assembly ($16) & either a Lone Wolf Alphawolf or Faxon fluted Gen 5 G17 threaded barrel ($100-$150) & some Ameriglo optic compatible sights for like $60. I’m on the fence about the GG magwell. Normally, I like them because they help with my grip, but I don’t really have a problem with the grip on the compact Dagger.

Option 2 is the same frame ($86), but with a Shadow Systems gen 3 G19 complete slide. I’d only have to add the recoil assembly & barrel. The added bonus of THIS option is that I’d get their 2nd to none optics mounting setup.

As for optics for either of these 2, I plan to take the EPS full-size off my PDP Pro & using it for whichever build I go with. Then, using my free RMR plate from Walther, putting the now HIGHLY coveted by me Swampfox Justice 2 or C&H Precision Comp on the PDP.

So, has anyone done a build like either of the 2 I’m considering? Am I forgetting anything? All “decking out” will be done over time. I just want a safe, functional & RELIABLE, yet SMALLER & LIGHTER edc weapon & optic (which I already have. One of the future additions (or if I can squeeze it in during the build) would be a Precision Overwatch Poly DAT drop-in trigger assembly ($86 on Optics Planet). Anyone have 1 of these in their build? If so, how do you like it?

Who cares about all the extra stuff. You have already built what was your Golden gun - don’t repeat the same mistake. Purely my opinion but don’t overthink this.

Buy yourself a Dagger compact or a Glock 19 and be happy that you know it will go bang for XX$$

im with jammo, dont over think and over do it again.

sometimes less is more.
go with a dagger micro, 15 rounds is pleanty… it will be light, small, and functional.

PDP doesn’t make sense to me for it’s weight. It’s snapper than a lot of lighter guns.
Personally having had some holster fitment issues in the safariland duty hoslters with Brownell’s slides, I’d avoid them. Also wears my kydex ones out too. Those corners are not chamfered enough. Outside of that I do like the Brownells, especially now that they offer them with ported barrels.

Shadow Systems would be my pick for sure, honestly just one of their complete Foundation series as they aren’t much more than a standard Glock Gen5. You do have to keep in mind their extractor plunger and spring are proprietary, and last I checked they don’t have polymer spacers for the EPS/ Holosun K footprint stuff yet, so it will mount but you could shear screws. Their compact/micro stuff has them but not the fullsize, from what I saw.

They actually DO have an EPS spacer kit for the MR. Its on their website. And my buddy runs 1 on his MR920L.

As for the PDP, TRUST ME, I’M SO FREAKIN MAD I didn’t take weight into account. But either way, it’ll be a Dagger, a Dagger build of some sort, or I’ll switch my base model Sig 365 into an Xmacro for like $500.

Well, I WAS thinking the Brownell’s route over for 1 main reason. The perpetually out-of-stock Compact X long slide. I’d be MORE than happy to just get a compact frame & that slide, but they’ve been out for what seems almst like months.

The other thing I can do that won’t run me much $ is take my base model Sig 365 & make it into an Xmacro for about $500. And yes, I’ve also been eying the comped Micro Dagger. Thankfully, my local PSA distributor is gonna be getting some in soon.

i feel your pain about the perpetual out of stock as i too am in the same boat.

i do like the idea abou ta micro dagger though.
decisions, decisions…

i built a golden gun… i just bought all the parts on sale and ended up costing the same as it would stock

I LOVE it!!! G19L?

Yeah, I’m pretty miffed about it. If it ends up being easier to go the Brownell’s route, then I will. After I cost it out, it ends up being $500 before shipping & our chop-busting 9.75% sales tax.

Or I’ll just get either a Canik TP9 Elite SC (I WON’T go with the newer MC9 & its shorter barrel & smaller slide), TP9 Elite Combat or Mete SF. The members of the Canik Clan have got my curiosity piqued. As far as the Elite SC, LITERALLY EVERYONE I’ve spoken with about it SWEARS it shoots like a full-size & has NONE of the snap of similar size pistols. The Elite Combat being a bit bigger, but not AS big as a full size, ALSO has similar rave reviews. My issue being weight, I’ll trade size but keep capacity. And everyone I’ve spoken with have said the Elite Combat is a true combat handgun, just not as big.

I would assume that’s subjective. To me, it means high capacity, light weight, smooth shooting & durable. When you look at weapons carried by certain special ops units, like the 19X, it fits that bill. And even though its an older design, the Sig 229 also fits that bill, as there’s a reason the Secret Service still carries it.

A bunch of the Secret Service also carries 5.7.

love the slide and barrel. very nice on that one.

a true combat handgun … definition is simple. its a handgun, ANY handgun, you have if you’re in a combative situation. period.

They carry it in place of the MP5 & the Uzi before it. Its the FNP-90 Herstall. But their sidearm is still the 229. Which, to ME anyway, is STILL THE BEST Sig I’ve EVER shot. Even better than ANYTHING they have out now. I think the Secret Service has their’s chambered in .357 Sig though, not 9mm. I’m pretty sure the model is the Sig 229 DAK.

the 34 would definitely be my “true combat handgun” of choice tho lol

the slide is absolutely the best glock slide ive tried, the barrel is the same as oem but that’s not bad at all and i got it in nitride, TiN, and DLC which is my favorite now for showing little to no wear in comparison

Where’d you get the slide? Is it Trybe as well? I’ve given some thought to getting their single port universal comp for my Masada Tactical, which I wish SOMEONE BESIDES C&H would make plates for!

If I end up going with the Glock19/Glock49/Compact Dagger of SOME configuration, the ONLY accessory I’m gonna put on it right off the bat besides a Grip Force adapter beavertail is a TTI +2.

I DO love the 49, but I’m a HUGE fan of that specific configuration on ANY gun. The CZ P10 SC, Shadow Systems MR920L, Zev OZ9C Elite, all have the compact frame with a 4.5 inch slide. And for some reason, that combination, with my smaller hands, feels VERY well balanced.
