Mini 14 remodel

If I got a good deal on a Mini14 but had what looks like a little rough stock would be worth refinishing? Have not seen it in person but looks like some pretty good wear on stock. Wear almost looks like it was in a horse holster you know where it has a flap over the buttstock. Or something similar.

Yes.

If you can’t restore the stock, other stocks for them aren’t hard to come by and you have a decent amount of options between factory polymer, factory wood, a couple polymer tacticool types, aftermarket wood, or the A-team folder style.

They’re great guns otherwise. Reliable and tough.

Of note, that looks like an older style with the thin barrel, you can tell for sure by checking the serial number on Ruger’s website. Those guns are the ones some stupids complain about having accuracy issues, but you just can’t rapid fire them to the point where you start getting barrel whip. Treat it like any other weapon with a pencil barrel and it’ll be fine. If you don’t get that particular Mini but get another one, it’s not an issue with the later models (which I believe have a serial that starts with a 4 rather than a 1.)

(edit: The later model Minis with the thicker barrel are 580 and up on the serial number. Just checked.)

Yep, I didn’t even think of all the aftermarket stocks etc. I especially like the folding stainless stock. Thanks for the info to I will take a look at age.

I’d rub some boiled linseed oil on it and call it good. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

I love Accuracy Systems for Mini customization.

Here’s a link to all their stock options. You can get brand new unfinished walnut or birch, or a variety of other options.

They also have tons of customization and improvement options for the Mini all around. If you get it, I’d recommend the gas bushings, as Minis do come overgassed from the factory and rain hot brass down on anyone to your right at the range.

:joy:

That describes my A-TM exactly!

It’s so Forceful that, at my local State Owned range even in the far-right station - it ricochets brass off the inside-ceiling of the pergola and rains half of it BACK down onto the poor guy to the LEFT of me! Any other position on the firing line, everyone to the Right is getting a lap-full.

If I shoot it on the extreme-right edge of the 50-yard range, where it can’t pelt the awning or anyone else on my line with brass, it yeets it over the dividing-Berm and hucks it at whoever is in the far-left bay of the 25-yard range…

:winking_face_with_tongue:

It Wants Gas Bushings badly.

Accuracy Systems does make an adjustable gas block for the Mini-14 that can allow you to customize the pressure to balance things out

Just now seeing this Thomas, so what does she look like now?

Yeah I was not sure if it was a good deal or not. So I passed, kind of regret though because the stainless is really nice and was just normal wear and tear.

I did see another one for 600 dollars earlier this month. The prices seem to be crazy range form 550 to 1300. lol no idea.
