I’ve only made it out once this season. Saw a few, but no shooters. Well one, but I didn’t realize he was a shooter until it was too late. Rut was definitely on. I poured some tinks #69 on my boots when I got out of the side by side and walked to the stand. Fast forward about an hour and a half I’m taking a leak, turn back to my right, and he was pawing at the ground right where I poured. His nose stayed glued to the ground, followed my exact path for about 200 yards, and about 100 yards out from where I was standing I realized he was a 4.5 year old inside the ear 5 point with no left brow tine that needs to go but he never picked that head up until he must have winded me and slipped into the woods.

Still pretty cool to watch and nice to know the rut IS ON!

I really need to find a good spot here. I havent gone out in a few years because I’m not driving an hour to a game land.

Final yield was about 20lbs cube steak, 17lbs burger, 4 whole roasts and estimate 12 qts of canned hash. Long day but a good day.

And you will enjoy for quite a few dinners.
