New AR-15 owner

Bought my first AR from PSA last month. Very excited about learning as much as I can here. I can say that I am anxious to purchase another (possibly a build) or purchase an AK.

@Murphy553
Buying is fun, I’d say building is more hands on, but building AR-15’s is really simple once you’ve done it once, almost as simple as building lego’s but more satisfying once you hear the bang. :smiley:

Congrats on your first AR-15!

Definitely grab an AK if you don’t have one. The GF3s and 5s are a great starting point.

Is this your 1st AR?

It is addicting. They multiply throughout my safe and house like rabbits for some reason. I find things that I never even knew I had sometimes!

Hey I just recently bought an Ar15 as well. Are you have any issues with it cycling the ammunition?

I haven’t had any issues. I’ve put about 500 rounds between .223/.556 through it so far.

I gotcha. Yeah I cleaned and oiled it and I plan to buy a steal mag and more ammo for the next time I go out.

I’ve only put Magpul pmags through it. That’s what my rifle was shipped with so that’s what I’ve bought since.

@Murphy553 you won’t go wrong with pmags. I only use them and metal mags.

A hinge pin/front pin assembly tool is a life saver. Be careful with the buffer retainer pin and spring, I spent over a hour looking for it.

@Murphy553 heck yeah man! P mags gen3 are great and will do the job perfectly. Probably the industry standard. If youre looking for a metal option, dura-mags are aluminum and seem to slip in and out a little easier and are lighter.

Only advice I have is make sure you know where your springs are haha. They tend to full-send right off the table into the abyss.

Cheap option for a takedown-pin tool is a “clevis pin.” Its Slotted and makes for easy access.
