I got a special a few weeks ago; two Dagger complete lowers in FDE (one a compact, the other a compact-s) and just got a complete slide (FDE, Doctor optics) in today to complete the first.
Feels great, ran great, but shooting about 6" low at 30’; has anyone run into this? Does PSA sell different height front sights in the same configuration to help zero?
They’re not adjustable, unfortunately. So they are zeroed…to a degree. You just have to compensate for where the rounds are going, kind of like what you would do to account for wind/bullet drop with a rifle at distance.
Honestly, a gun that doesn’t shoot to POA for me is not going to work; Kentucky windage might be fine for a plinker, but not for any gun intended for any serious purpose.
Depending on when I get the red dot I’m planning, I’ll likely take this out to the mill and give it a shave. Luckily the mill is about 100’ from my range, so zeroing shouldn’t be too arduous.
I agree with you. It doesn’t matter they’re the higher sights, they should still zero. The relative height of the front, and rear should be correct. There are too many apologists on these forums that make excuses for bad design, or execution at the factory. If you pay your money you should get what you pay for. Sights have a specific purpose, and they should fulfill that purpose. Apparently people are so used to getting junk they’ve come to accept it. I like PSA, and spend a lot of money there, but I expect stuff to work. Usually it does, but I’ve received a few defective products also.
For the record, a couple minutes at the mill and POA=POI. I realize everyone ‘sees’ sights differently, and it’s hard to make fixed sights work for everyone. I’ve also added the planned red dot, so the irons are only back-up’s, as well. Appreciate the comments and help.
Uh, for the record, PSA doesn’t make those sights. They’re Ameriglo brand, and any sight that sits that high will have the same effect on point of impact with a standard hold.
Agree or disagree with it all you like, as I said earlier I wish PSA didn’t use them, but a rant concerning quality execution is not warranted here.
Term of the day is “Height over bore”. I mean, could Ameriglo make the front shorter so it zeroes with this specific series of guns? Sure. Then another may need a taller sight and there goes your money.
You can either adjust it yourself for your specific gun AND ammo, or just aim collarbone/neck area.
there have been multiple threads with people complaining about the tall sights. the best solution is to replace them with any glock compatible sights you like most, or if using an rmr just remove irons entirely. with the 3dot sights it’s incredibly more accurate.
to make it much easier heat up the front sight really hot, you’ll need a glove or towel to hold onto the slide, i use a blow dryer.
