PSA 104 or GF4 AK-P....help me out

I don’t own any AK pattern rifles and my safe says i need one…narrowing it down to an AK104 pistol or a GF4 AK-P. Things that stand out:

The AK-P has a PSA CHF barrel, which is one thing that draws me to it.

The 104 is 12.5" vs 10.5 for the AK-P, and comes with the ALG trigger. AK-P comea with the PSA EPT. Both have chf trunions, bolts, and carriers.

The AK-P has a railed dust cover for an optic, would need to add a rail to the 104.

What would you choose and why?

I have none either and this is the year I think. You able to make a krinkov clone from the ak-p? Just watched a brandon herrera video shooting one and has me dazed🤩

The krink was 5.45x39, both of these are 7.62x39.

Ah, my bad

I have an AK that I’m eyeing, but it’s an AK-47 GF4 forged.

That said, between your choices I’d go with the 104.

The 12.5” barrel is better suited to 7.62x39.

But the 10.5 is shorter.:thinking::thinking::thinking:

No denying that.

If you’re after the shortest barrel, your choice is obvious. If you’re after the “best” ballistics between the two, your choice is obvious.

Everything else is just accessories that can be changed/swapped/added.

You can add optic to AKP immediately….but…
AKP has NO side rail for optic mount.

To add optic to AK104, you’ll need to buy the side mount & optic.
Advantage to the side mount is you can remove it & mount it without loss of zero. I have seen people with red dots on one mount and a second mount with a low power variable.
Both have 24x1.5 threaded FSB for muzzle devices.
10.5 barrel……vs….12.5 barrel. The difference is small enough that you must choose based on what you find appealing….unless your a stickler for every bit of velocity.
AKP …you must use a picatinny rail adapter to mount an alternate brace……which could limit your options.

This is the biggest difference:
AK104 uses a 4.5mm side folding plate that is commonly found and makes adapting an alternative brace easy……only limited to your imagination.
Potential to be important if you plan to SBR it in the future.

I will probably stay with the triangle folder. I like it better on the AK than an SBA3. As for SBR, maybe, maybe not.

A side folding 104 barreled receiver is 650, gf4 regular receiver is the same price, seems like you get more with a 104

Im not going to build one. The reality i will probably eventually have both.

I have the 104, and went all the way to stamp and a triangle folder. I do not regret it at all, its a blast. I got an attero rear sight mount for a PA SLX MD-25. That said, the AKP would have accepted it on the cover out of the box. I don’t think there’s a wrong answer between the two unless the CHF barrel is substantial for you.

Can you post a pic?

Dont have a recent one, but here it is after i got the folder on, before I put optic and a proper hand stop.

Edit: if youre still on the fence by this weekend, I’ll be out with it again and can get you something more recent. KS happened shortly after I got it set up and has been consuming my attention

Whats the bottom rail?

Went by Fern today and put hands on. I for sure want the triangle brace, i know that. They had a GF4 with a CHF barrel also…so now the question comes to length and optics/mounts. Otherwise pretty much the same gun parts wise.

Lower handguard is SLR rifleworks ion lite. It was incredibly easy to install and feels very nice in the hand. I know zenit would be more clout points, especially now, but i just like that slim feel plus weight savings.

Also, highly recommended 3d printed grips because the memes are strong

If you haven’t handled the AK with that SB triangle folding brace…you should get your hands on one and give it a good going “through the motions” of shouldering, aiming, mag exchanges, and running with it.
A lot of people like it…….and a lot of people do not like it.
If your not going to be running a course of fire….for time, and you like it….Great.
But “know before you go”.
Some people find the triangle brace folding when in use with just the slightest pressure……no bueno.
Some people are annoyed by its lateral flexing.
I have no opinion….but you should handle it in the same manner your going to use it before buying….so you “know”……rather than be disappointed.
Kastaway’s steel folder is great and it’s an easy swap…… nice stock.

So im leaning towards the AK-P after pricing options (adding my suppressor, need an adaptor and mount, along with optics). I think the 10.5 will also balance better with my can.
