Does PSA have any idea how well a domestically produced SVD in 7.62x54r or .308 would sell?
Why isn’t this a thing already?

If I had to guess, almost certainly tooling/overhead.
That’s a yuuuggee project. I’m not aware of any technical data package to make it’s way state side so it’s not just like they can start making parts. They would have to reverse engineer all the parts and it’s a pretty unique platform. Plus having a milled receiver ain’t cheap for the end user.
True, but what a way to stay on the bleeding edge of a product line ![]()
The lack of the Russian ammo coming in as well could be a hindrance
Seems like someone was saying the new ammo plant will be producing steel-cased ammo sometime in the future. If they’re going to use Russian machinery, maybe they could throw in Dragunov schematics (no harm in asking, right?
)
They will have steel running in 2023. Producing steel ammo is very different than getting a drag up and running.
It really was a tongue-in-cheek comment!
Would love to see them do an actual Dragunov, not just a PSL which is just a big AK. I kinda doubt they will though because their business model is producing affordable guns to John Q public and even a clone of a Drag is gonna be up there.
Let’s hope though!
I wouldn’t be sad if it was in .308
For the record, Jamin at PSA’s 2020 SHOT Show booth claimed to the AK Operator’s Union Youtube channel that they had a prototype SVD in the works, and potentially were aiming to have a display unit ready for 2021. Things may have slowed down for… reasons, but that project is likely still in the works.
They have a LOT of prototypes lol
Is it going to happen? Or maybe a al kadesiah
I remember that in one of the shot show interviews that KUSA said that they have the technical packages for a number of Russian designs including the SVD. Now whether they do anything with them is another story. All comes down to money in the end.
Would probably be best for PSA to do a PSL, since KUSA will most certainly build a proper SVD and PSA can never compete with that. Besides, PSAs models more closely resemble Eastern European AKs, such as Bulgaria (who uses 4.5mm folding trunnions) and Romania, even though their AK100 line is meant to follow the Russian AK100 series even though they use 5.5 mm folding trunnions and their are numerous other differences
Kusa cant even build a ak101, canted sight, bent receivers, rusted folding stock latches, months delayed on production, and… they have a porn star as a spokesperson. Kusa outsources everything they don’t make a thing in house it’s a joke of a company. PSA for the win
I think 30-06 would be better than 308 but they could make it in both calibers.
I’d rather PSA focus on improvements to existing platforms.
I’m ready for the rifle-length JAKL. I cannot afford a Galil ACE Gen 2 or an FN SCAR-L, but I can afford a short-stroke gas piston rifle from PSA.
I’ve been very to extremely pleased with all the PSA products I have.
This is my plan once I have my FFL up and running. It’s been a long haul.
