How do I remove the slide without the spring?
Not sure im following…what gun? And are your asking how to remove the slide without the recoil spring? If so, you cant. Depending on the gun it either comes off with the slide or you remove it first (like on a 1911).
PSA Dagger Compact. I put the slide back on without the spring.
Assuming the Dagger is fully assembled except for the recoil spring, then I would think it should come apart the same as if it were assembled with the spring. Make sure it’s unloaded first, point it in a safe direction and pull the trigger. Pull back just slightly on the slide and then pull down on the slide release buttons, then slide the slide off the front. Without the spring in place, the barrel may get hung up so just wiggle it as needed to get the slide off.
This. The slide will still come off in the same way with or without the recoil spring/assembly.
If that doesn’t work, remove the back plate and it will come right off.
I have made this mistake a few times.
I have never tried taking the back plate off; i have always been able to drop the striker by fiddling with the trigger while manipulating the slide and the slide lock. 3 hands helps.
“And I’ll Never Do That Again!”
I once had my Ruger KP90 apart (waaaay back when it was new - and so was I!), and was fiddling with the magazine in the frame. Somehow, I got it partially back together and jammed-up WITHOUT flicking the ejector back into the takedown position… I got Nothin’. ![]()
Took me two days of fiddling with it to get the dang thing back apart, undamaged.
Narrator: “But little did he know, he would indeed do that again”
Well, not That Specifically…
