I bet our guys from the midlands start heading that way soon. Mid Carolina Electric Co Op is almost done after a 95%+ outing (over 65k people).
They’re having to rebuild transmission lines as well.
I just had my power restored last night about 8:30, been out since last Thursday night. My hat is off to the crews working their butt’s off. They have many weeks of work left in this area.
The main difference between here and the Columbia area is that we are largely still rural. Lots of of two lane roads, farm land, mountainous terrain etc. Even in perfect weather; game days at Death Valley are a traffic nightmare. The entirety of the local population know to avoid Clemson unless you are actually going to the game.
By allowing the game to be played Clemson just magnified an already huge problem for this area. If there was a lack of preparation it was by the Clemson administration. Even Stanford got caught up in their weak decisions and couldn’t even get into Greenville-Spartanburg airport (an hour drive from Clemson in the best of conditions) until 7am game day. Clemson University owns this mess.
BTW here is a link to our local outage map:

Much work left to be done.

I used to live in the upstate and completely understand. Im just saying that as you criticize, whether rightly or not, lift up the positives. Lexington county where i live still have lots of unpassable dirt roads. My kids finally went back to school today and not a single one of their teachers had power yet. We aint all fixed either, and its going to take time.
Funny that you should mention school…
Clemson canceled all classes on Monday because it was too “dangerous” for the students.
The hypocrisy is astounding.
I have much to be thankful for, my wife and I safe, my son and his family in Concord, NC are safe. We only lost one Bartlett pear tree, all of our neighbors are safe but many have trees down thankfully no homes were hit. We are recovering slowly but surely. But when you see someone throw gas on a raging fire it needs to be called out.
I don’t necessarily disagree with you Tony, but I have to say most of what those tailgaters were looking for was likely already gone before they arrived. I worked at Michelin US 2 for years driving a semi and Clemson Boulevard was a nightmare every home game day. I see both sides. I just texted a friend / co-worker who has her house full near Spartanburg because they have a generator.
I am blessed beyond my merit.
I just feel like nobody’s right and nobody’s wrong. I was at a 7-11 on Woodruff Rd. just wanting something to eat Friday. Watched a couple walk out with 8 bags of ice. They filled the stadium, the places that were able to open opened. Our area is still wrecked but the sun comes up tomorrow. I feel that was the message.
Our local news says 10% of the midlands is without power still. Hopefully by the weekend.
Got power back Tuesday night.
Been swinging a chainsaw around the property since Saturday, finally finished with what I can do. Gotta have a pro take care of the rest.
Good to hear you’re making progress.
I heard about this on the radio yesterday. Finally found the story…
What would possibly possess someone to block anybody trying to rescue people from this disaster???

Nephew F/F Ryan on scene with NJ Task Force-1 in NC.
I’d like to here what he has to say being “boots on the ground” about the response.
