I like the idea, and it may be hard to execute, but it may also be worth it. I’ll float the idea at my next meeting and see what they say about it. I also floated the idea about bringing their guns they debut’ed at shot show just to show off and maybe even vote on to the gatherings too… so we’ll see if that gets traction or not too.
the kids thing , has an unlimited # of possiblities, you could invite daisy to setup a bb gun area for kids, you could do a round robbin of booths with simple gun related games, you could do a small teaching game on the basics of gun handling and what kids should do when they find one at home, etc, etc, etc… .great idea. in my opinion. .truly a great idea.
@Welder
Brad, yeah he was very busy that weekend loading and helping folks shoot. I only got to talk to him briefly when we first got there in the morning, cause no one was around. If they all work for H&R then they all work for mike, which if i know mike means they’re all very well educated in the H&R product line and historical rifle models. It may have been confirmation by mike a bout the LMG but since it is a division of psa, all i have to say is they like to play that close to the vest about whether or not its going to be developed and whether or not itll be out soon or not…etc. etc.
i honestly am surprised at how many guys these days are excited about the retro stuff, and the H&R offerings. dont get me wrong i think its wonderful, but it just surprises me… most you’d think would be looking for the biggest and greatest on the AR world… but nah, clone guns… lol. I like it, its good to see so many interested in history and historical clones.
I missed the berretta revolver. what is olmi Armi or vice versa? a beretta in 357 is pretty awesome… but at that price point i can buy colt’s snake guns. and well, thats the way i’d go most likely unless i just had to have a beretta. they’ll have to come down on that price to compete i bet.
I am all for the latest amd greatest with the AR world. That being said, the M16A1 was a blast to shoot. I could ping the steel every time and had confidence in it. Half of the guns there had red dots or some sort of optic on them. Everyones eyes are different of course so depending on who zero’d it will make a difference. If I can not hit a steel target with it and I am trying to make adjustments with shot placement, it creates frustration. Now some of the optics were set up perfect and has got me wanting to buy one even more (Holosun AIMS comes to mind).
At the Beretta booth, they had an Olmi Armi (Olmi is the company, Beretta would be the importer). I do not remember the model exactly but I believe it was the 963MF. It was a fantastic shooting revolver but…like you said @GamecockOperator , why wouldn’t I buy a Colt snake gun?
@Rufus I shot that 2 grand 9mm and thought it was okay. When the guy said $2000 I thought he was joking. I was expecting maybe $500 MAX. Armscor/RIA was probably the most disappointing booth to me. Saturday morning I tried shooting their .22TCM pistol and it was a very nice single shot. It would not eject the round of the chamber. Every time. I want to say its because it was ran hard and put away wet from Friday but still…disappointing.
i’ve been kinda feeling what you are regarding optics lately… but mostly on pistols. .I like optics still on my rifles, that said, i agree with what you said about whomever sighted them in. Luckily i was usually pretty accurate with the rifles when they wre sighted in.
i am still dumbfounded by a 2k rock island. that also sucks about the 22 tcm i hate to hear that.
i was especially disappointed in kimber.
i saw the sign, but not them
I’m not against optics on pistols at all. In fact I have some on mine right now. Some guns just didn’t need them. A great example is the Stoeger booth. They had basically every flavor of the STR-9, with and without optics. I shot the full size one with no optics and man I was surprised. $299 ($249 with the rebate right now) was a shockingly low price for such a good feeling and good shooting pistol. Having the option of no optics was a great thing that they did. I think my complaint from them is I wanted to see a shotgun at their booth. Not the biggest complaint or really a bad one to have I guess.
I got there when they opened Saturday Morning as they put it away Friday regarding the TCM 22. They said Friday it was too dirty. I wanted to compare it to 5.7 Rock. 1st AND 2nd 3 rd shots (oiling between) were 1 semi fire out six… disappointing. They had the previous night to clean it and get it ready.
On the $2000 gun, I agree. Nice shooter? YES. $2000 nice? About 14-1200 shy for me.
The most disappointing booth?
Agreed. I tried the TMC 22 and it wasn’t a semi either.
Judging by the looks of it on Saturday, it didn’t look like it got cleaned or oiled. She looked dry and dirty. Everything is telling me that maybe I shouldn’t buy one BUT I still kind of want one.
Their shotguns also disappeared on Saturday along with whatever rifle they had. I would have liked to have checked them out but I don’t even know what I missed out on.
Yeah, and I mean I’m full on game for helping any way I possibly can to make it a reality. So early on brainstorming will definitely be the biggest help to make it a reality. I did notice a lot more kids this year than last.
Of course it doesn’t have to be anything crazy but just something that’ll make them feel more involved and invited.
Even BB guns would be cool! Wonder if PSA could make their own BB gun by next year
I have a really good friend that teaches kids safety course down here but I’m not sure if he would be willing to go up there and do them.
But yeah, I’m down with helping brainstorm if they need any extra input
sadly it seemed some were packing up a hair early saturday… when they should stick it out until 5pm.
yeah papa, even a 22 booth with a silncer so its not too loud for them would be good, after they graduated from the bb booth they could try the rifles if they wanted. thats another great idea…
i’ve made notes in my notebook to bring it up.
I get the whole packing up early part. Alot of guys were doing it but I didnt really see that til like 4pm. When Armscor only has that 2 grand 9mm out because everything else has been malfunctioning…that is a different story.
Also…automatic guns were at several booths. Why did I not see a Glock 18 anywhere?? Several suppressor companies could have demo’d a can on it. Glock themselves should have had it. They had a suppressed G44, so they are already dabbling in tax stamps.
Years ago there was a binary dagger. I imagine the reason is control. I saw a few people demoing the FA that went to the top of the berm. Handgun is harder to control than a rifle
