Seems like a no brained to offer up a pistol length CAR upper in .308 but nobody seems to be doing it. Sure it might not be the most practical but when has that ever stopped any of the crazy bastards in our hobby? If there a market for an MP5 in .308 there’s got to be one for this.

There is no industry standard when it comes to the AR10 (unlike the AR15). That is why. Many companies offer shorter barrels so you can build your own. PSA used to offer a 12.5", which i like to claim i had a hand in (long story involving the space force meme ar10 lower and the fact i had hand built a 12.5" on a PSA receiver set). To my knowledge, i had the first 12.5" PSA ar10.
If you want a shorter barrel, try Ballistic Advantage or KAK. I think KAK even has a 10" one.

How is recoil in a shorter barrel?
Depends on how you have it set up. Mine has a can, heavy (short) buffer, stiffer spring and an adjustable gas block. I have it tuned to not be much recoil at all.

Its been tried before. The market segment of knuckleheads that love big huge fireballs and loss of hearing is rather limited and seems better serve by black powder cap and ball weapons. The geniuses that build the pistol AK managed to get all of the cheap steel core ammo banned as pistol ammo designed to defeat body , but Americans are not too smart so I’m sure they’ll get the ATF to do some more banning.
