I ordered this lower pistol receiver assembly, it’s PSA SKU 5165448150:

I looked at the cost of getting the lower kit and bare receiver. When on sale with free shipping, this is kind of a no brainer since it costs the same as assembling it yourself. The only thing is, my lower assembly needed a bit of refinement to the assembly process. The tube was screwed on and jammed into the buffer retaining pin. I had to file a small notch in the tube so it would screw on far enough but still allow the pin to be pressed down to get the buffer out. This isn’t a huge deal; I shot it several times with no problems before I started nitpicking. The only reason I noticed the problem was because I removed the rear plate and put on one with a QD hole.
Good thing my AR pistol has a Holosun red dot and no iron sights at all. I did not know about that.
If you think you don’t know much, then you obviously need more experience. The best way to get experience, of course, is to buy more firearms, and components, and accessories, and tools. Can’t forget tools. Then you need plenty of secure storage space, and ammo, and magazines (both kinds), and some more tools. You are educating yourself, saving money by doing it yourself, and investing in our children’s futures. Also should probably invest in more ammo—and some additional tools.
FYI, I understood California Refugee to mean you’d left California for a freer state. Your posts made that fairly obvious. Although I do see how the term could be ambiguous, it’s still a good handle. Maybe at some point you’ll create an avatar that clarifies. Then celebrate by getting yourself some gun tools.
After the build I just did (my first) I’m realizing that I’m replacing many of the parts that came in the kit and I might have been better off just buying the upgraded components separately first. About the only thing left from the kit now is the bolt release and the buffer tube/spring.
those are good looking pistols sir.
Yes, I believe that’s called “learning” and also experimenting. Trouble is, it can get expensive, as I am learning twenty dollars at a time. How did a few bucks here and there on some “improved” parts for various firearms end up being thousands of dollars?
Must be what I call “restaurant math.”. You know, where two $10 food plates and two coffees at $2 each, plus tax and 20% tip, somehow total $40. (Yes I know: what restaurant has those prices now that everyone uses covid as an excuse for fifty percent price increase?).
I prefer government math, whereby I saved five thousand dollars by not spending it. Add that to the thousand I saved by buying guns and ammo on sale, and I’ve “saved about six grand this year. Hey, wait a minute! I guess then I should “invest” in a new AR, or maybe an AK, and that neat 22LR pistol, and that sweet 9mm pistol I’ve been wanting. That way, I turn that savings into more savings in the future by investing it.
