Anyone found that their 6.5 doesn’t like hornady123 sst at all. After hundreds of dollars in ammo I’m to the point that I want to replace the barrel.
What types of groups are you getting and with what ammo?
Hornady sst are shooting 5 in MOA at 100yds. Definitely not what I had envisioned. My other PSA builds shoot moa or better.
I have not tried a psa barrel, but I built one with an 18" barrel that was not the most expensive I could find some years ago and it printed acceptable groups with the sst. I use them sporadically on pigs when I’m not in an ak mood. It seemed to be comparable to the wolf steel loads, 3" spread give or take, albeit with a significantly different zero. If I was looking to squeeze the group size down, I’d probably get my hands on an a many different factory loads as possible and see if any like the barrel better.
Of course, good luck finding an ammo buffet these days
Have you been able to try any other round besides the Hornady SST to rule out ammo? I would be happy to bring it back in and have us accuracy test it.
Thanks a million for your reply, have heard that PSA customer service is is top notch. It really is nice when management takes the time to handle the actual issues instead of some randomly paid employees.
Just got some federal 90 gr otm. Gonna give it a try. Was planning on doing some hunting with it but so far my selection of ammo is limited. Just really sucks that it won’t shoot sst well. I’ve spent more on ammo now than I have the upper and I’ve only had it a few weeks.
Thx Chris
What ammo did you find most accurate in testing?
Old but was out getting zero on some rifles for deer next month. Relevant to OP
That and wolf garbo steel is all I ever feed this thing.
Josh at PSA I also have a grendel upper that has accuracy issues with. I haven’t found anything it will shoot. I get 1 inch groups at 50 yards and at 100 yards they are two to three inches high and 3 inches to the right. I got so discussed with it I bought a ruger american and the difference is staggering. I got a 3/4 inch group with a handload at 100 yards first time out. The PSA has shot hornady match and hornady custom 123 sst. My handloads don’t fair any better with my hand loads. Any help would be appriciated.

I have an 18 inch upper that I purchased, I have yet to achieve any accuracy with it. I have tried Hornady 123 gr eld match and 123 gr sst custom. I also reload and have not been able to achieve and accuracy with my hornady loads, Barners 120 TTSX, 107 gr Sierra. The rounds were zeroed at 50 yards with poor groups and tried at 100 yds. All 100 yd shots were high and to the right with about a 3-4 inch spread. I finally purchased a ruger bolt action and got great results the first day. Any help would be appreciated. Mike
I just purchased a PSA 6.5 Grendel complete upper 20" SS. After doing the research whats been common complaints and the recommended fixes, before I even match it to lower I’m going to polish the aggressive ears off the extractor, polish the chamber and feed ramp, crown and Chamfer the barrel muzzle, then put on the lower take it to the range fire and adjust the gas block. Doing all that I think it will fire just fine and MOA at 100 yards. But if I still have trouble grouping I’ll blame my cheap $200 scope first and barrow a $1000 scope to make sure . 10 years ago I owned a Watsons Weapons AR 50 BMG and could never group the shots until I finally put decent optics on it, in this cast a Zeiss Conquest and the difference with outstanding glass made all the difference, I was able to group MOA at 400 yards and 5" groups at 1000 yards. Of course the barrel was 36 inches surplus aircraft 50 BMG. Anyway I’m optimistic about my 6.5 Grendel barrel but doing the fixes first. And why did I buy another AR I don’t really need? Because I don’t have a Grendel.
If anyone needs help with warranty work, feel free to PM me and I will take care of you!
Talk to PSA customer service they paid for me to return the upper, it was rebarreled and sent back in a short time frame. Have only shot once since it came back but it shoots like an are now. I just ordered one of their 12 inch grendel pistol uppers.
Is that a War Horse sling?
Sure is. I love em.
I’ve been meaning to get one of their rip-away stagers.
The blue accents - those appear to be Seekins. I have been looking for the trigger guard, mag-release button, and the ambi-safety in Blue for The Wife’s PSA Blue-Anodized rifle, but haven’t had any luck (lots of Red, black, fde, etc).
Do you recall where you got yours?
@TheAirHawk have you tried looking for Lead Star parts? They make blue, as does TimberCreek if memory serves me correctly.
Trying to keep it on the downlow - and she likes the Seekins stuff.
BUUUUUT - that said, if it’s a reasonable-match to her PSA-Blue anodized rifle, Ima bet she’ll be surprised and love it. Or Beat me for spending money on more guns….
¡Danke shön!
