Hey guys sorry if this has been answered already, I just purchased my first PSA PA10, can I safely fire 7.62 rounds from this or is it better to just buy 308Win for my new precious?
Dont quote me on this, but iirc 7.62x51 is actually lower pressure loading than commercial 308 win, so you should be fine for either.
Someone with better memory will chime in soon, I’m sure.
Fwiw: I ran lots of Malaysian surplus x51 in a CMMG 308 upper for years and never had an issue with it. YMMV
.308 chambered rifles can do both calibers
Not the other way around.
And to add to that:
5.56 in a 223 chamber = NO
223 in a 556 chamber = Yes
Both in a Wylde chamber
7.62 in a 308 chamber = Yes
308 in a 7.62 = NO
308 can be 10k+ more in pressure
What about for hunting, is 7.62 I imagine is still capable of taking down hogs, deer and Red stags? I’m not using the PA10 as a main hunting rifle. I have a Tc center Compass that I use as my main hunting rifle. I have a brother who I finally convinced to come out red stag/ Hog hunting here in a few months and I just want to know what my options are in terms of ammo to bring.
That is more about shot placement and the specific bullet than the chamber itself. You’ll not likely find many loads in x51 NATO that are well suited to taking large game. Id throw anything at feral pigs, but for stag or the like, probably handload or buy either a nice bonded and/or tipped lead-core or one of the monometal hunting loads. I am married to Barnes TSX and their tipped version and for lead core i stick with Hornady SST. Anything factory loaded with good projectiles will do the job if you put it where it needs to go, but 165gr or heavier won’t hurt to have.
Disclaimer: I love hunting but I’m only human, YMMV.
I use Hornady 150gr SST and they are accurate and will take down large to medium game with good shot placement.

I love Hornady SST as well it’s the only ammo I have ever used to hunt with. I just wanted to know if there was an alterantive
If you dont mind paying a premium, Barnes Vor-TX factory loads and Hornady Outfitter with GMX bulkets are awesome and have massive terminal effect and penetration, plus are very consisten, to boot. And like most monometal bullets, ~95% or better weight retention.
I will definitely see if I can grab my hands on them! I know my tc compass loves hornandy I can’t wait to get my hands on this ar10. All I gotta do is pick out what scope I want to throw on this bad boy. I got a night vision on the compass I think I’m going to throw a regular scope on the pa10.
I put a swampfox patriot on my pa65 and zero regrets. Its a great optic for the money.
