2022 Running/Walking ongoing thread

Ok you lazy bunch of gun nuts…2022 is upon us. Need to lose a little weight? Need to set a goal and have some encouragement? Need to get in shape? Need to ask questions about fitness? This is the thread for you.

While my goal is running, you may want to start with keeping track of steps. I originally started with 10k steps a day walking. Now I average 14-15k a day with running added in. Other at home exercises are push ups, sit ups, reverse dips (I use the bath tub edge), jumping Jack’s, etc.

Rules for this thread:

  1. Set a Goal
  2. Keep track of your goal in this thread
  3. Encourage others
  4. No thread sliding or I will boot you.

My goal: run 1000 miles in 2022 (2.74 miles/day, roughly 85 miles/month) it doesn’t have to be consecutive days.

I spend too much time behind a desk and not enough being active, especially this time of year. I usually work out at least four days a week, but only for 45 minutes to an hour. This is way below where I was for most of my life. I will get out from behind that desk on Jan. 21st.
My goal will be to look in the mirror and not be pissed at the guy looking back at me.
I will do all of the Murph exercises, but walk instead of running. On alternate days, work out on my weight machine and dumbbells.
IF y’all see me running you need to haul ass cause there’s something really bad behind me. :open_mouth:

I don’t need to lose weight but I gotta pick up some speed for college track races in the spring and a triathlon in the summer. Would that qualify me to join this party?

What is thread sliding?

Google returned useless results…

Firstly, welcome to the forums! That’s exciting to be able to compete in T&F… Don’t let the pursuit of money (and the perfect firearm!) keep you from maintaining your health. I don’t think the OP will disqualify you for being in shape, but you’ll have to tell us the races you ran and your times

Try a salad once in a while.

Cool! I will!

The 8k, 5k, the 2 mile and 1 mile are my events (8k and 5k are my prime events).

My goals are a sub 30 min 8k, a sub 18 min 5k, get my 2 mile to be 11 minutes ish, and 1 mile under 5 (pretty close on this one. My best is a 5:11).

Pretty excited to be part of this community!

3.5 mile run today. A reminder to go do something, even if only a 1/2 mile walk.

I’m drinking Cheladas and eating breakfast burritos waiting for the game.

It’s 5° outside.

No……

My goals aren’t really cardio focused. Maybe should be, but I plan to continue and build on my current schedule of alternating ab workout (somewhat cardio intensive)/deep stretching and flexibility with weightlifting the other days Monday-Saturday. I’ve got a decent bench and only dumbbells but I can make up the lack of intensity with sets/reps and multiple exercises.

Need to get a good used bowflex or comparable on craigslist.

That’s awesome! The point of this thread is to get motivation and do what works for you!

Cheladas work for me :joy:

I will get motivated, I need too.

I miss living 3’ above sea level.

9000’ is hard…

But worth it

My weather app said it was 16 where I live. Coldest run I’ve ever done, miserable, then I get back home and it turns out my app was wrong. The real temperature was -6. Brrr

3/6.5 total. 993.5 miles to go.

4/10.5

Just short of a year ago I started a daily walking regimen with the dog as my FBS and A1C had rocketed during both COVID camping as well as recovering from a head/back injury. Started out at 1/3 of a mile and am presently walking anywhere from 30-50 minutes six days a week. I don’t do the scale but I’m down to the innermost notch on my belt and have to tuck in my sweatshirt to keep my pants from falling down. I’d say I’ve lost about 2.5-3" on my waistline. Dog (Laborador) has definitely trimmed down she is one lean mean doggo machine.

Thats awesome Ponti!

I routinely do 10-15k steps a day at work, and it’s not enough…

I live almost 13’ ASL. My whole life. I’ve been to NW Alabama a couple of times. It took me 2 days to acclimate to the altitude. No kidding. I think I’d pass away arriving at 9,000’.
