.22 AR Scope?

I recently bought 2 PSA .22 AR uppers after waiting for a looonnnnng time. I have only shot one so far but, very happy. I want to put a red dot on one and scope on the other. Looking for input on a decent but relatively inexpensive scope. Looking for something out to around 100 yards max (think squirrel hammer). Any recommendations appreciated.

This is a case where I would cheap out. Shouldn’t need anything more than a fixed 4 on the scoped one. I don’t have a PSA (or any brand) AR in .22, but I would imagine you would be very hard pressed to be shooting sub-MOA and I just don’t see the point of spending more than a couple hundred on glass for a plinker.

I’m sure somebody more knowledgeable on the subject will come along soon.

I’m a sucker for Vortex entry-level optics on low-recoil hosts. Pretty good glass for the money. Can usually catch them on sale if you shop around and have some time.

Put this on my BCA 22LR. More than I wanted to pay. Good low power scope with red dot.

I’d second an entry level Vortex red dot or magnified (or Sig or Holosun for a red dot).

Primary Arms (1-6x30, 22LR) has a couple 22LR/rimfire scopes. I like the one linked because it has variable zoom and the ACSS reticle (for 22LR). It appears to be out of stock for now.

PA has red dots too - the SLx MD-25 looks very interesting and has a lot of mounting-height options in the box. Also need to look at the Sig Romeo 7 a little closer…

Edit: The PA LPVO scope is really 1-6x24, not 1-6x30

For red dots, I dont often look farther than romeo5. There are definitely better ones on the market, but the 5 has always struck me as a great optic for the money. If you’re patient, you can catch them right at 100 and for that, they do a lot. At least from my perspective and use cases.

A little pricey, but they do make some awesome stuff–especially for the money. Usually have a promo code to get a free cantilever mount too. I didn’t realize they had a .22 scope, but I’m not surprised.

The entry level Vortex or PA stuff is a fine call. Also, usually around now, Cabela’s has their CSR (Caliber Specific Riflescope) series on sale. I have picked up several between $99 and $130. The .22 LR 3x9 is dandy for 10/22 Rugers and should work fine on a flat top AR platform as well. I think the glass is surprisingly good for the price point.

Good input. Thanks folks. Kind of partial to Vortex myself. Incredible warranty and while it may not be optics I’d take to a battle field, they do make some good stuff.

I have a M&P 15-22 with a FDE reflex sight from Amazon. It’s perfect for intermediate targets and surprisingly accurate20210630_234713

Link or a little more info? Being as one will be a range plinker, I’m not averse to taking a chance on a cheap Amazon purchase.

Don’t do it. I don’t know what that one is called, but I can tell from the body I bought the same one 10+ years ago.

Those will cost you an extra $80 compared to that but they will not soon become paperweights.

This one would hardly cost any more than the Bezos paperweight.

Thanks for the input. No way I could ignore information from a guy named Cool Rick. Thanks!!

Not trash talking. I knew it was cheap when I got it and thought it was still worth it for about a year or so. They just don’t last. If you’re going to cheap out on one I’d do it on the magnified scope and not the red dot. You’ll lose a little glass clarity or eye relief on a cheap magnified scope, but it’ll still work.

No problem, I appreciate the input. Will probably stick with a Sig or Vortex product. I love Vortex’s warranty and the couple of Vortex products I have I am happy with. Its good to get input from others.

Good for you! I wanted one a long time. Finally, I gave up and bought a used CMMG on GunBroker. Like you, I haven’t shot it yet. I m9ved into town, and the neighbors wouldn’t approve.

Not on an AR22, but I have a vortex crossfire II 2x7x32 on a 22. Great for that round and won’t break the bank. Cheaper than the 1x4x24 in the same line.

That is actually one of the Vortex scopes I am looking at. Thanks

I recently bought the PSA22lr upper . I used a vortex red dot. As far as upper con earned , I’ve have noting but problems. I cannot shot more then 6 rounds without light primer strikes . I’ve switched lowers and had same . It’s noting but a jam o matic. I love PSA usually. Cleaning and piling again and seeing what happens. Getting ready for a return . Hope you have better luck.
