When I was packing for TN and I was not sure about carry laws ( I knew Alaska has reciprocity with all Southern States). I found that I didn’t have to inform the police in official duties that you are armed. What do you guys think of that? Think it is good sense to inform them or not start more issues by bringing it up. I love the freedom but was just wondering. In Alaska any “official” interaction with sworn police officers I have to declare I am armed or have one in reach in a car.

I brought my handgun just because I didn’t know what to expect, I feel safe here though such great people. Have to get used to waving to strangers again in neighborhoods

I think I would also. Just get it out there and done with. That was the term I was looking for also “Not required to inform”

I inform regardless of state, or better yet I used to, and I still would if the situation arose.

To me it’s just courtesy to let officers know in advance.

I always inform and say “just want to make sure this is a safe stop for us both.”

Easy as that :+1:

Of course then you have these stupid places that are just… I just know when your fellow officers tell you to drop the gun!!! It is bad.

When my wife was issued hers in Georgia, the State Trooper who issued it said ‘that while not required, if you hand permit to the officer along with driver license, there is nothing to be said, it is clearly understood, appreciated as a courtesy and prevents awkward conversations.’

He said that some people throw both hands out the window when pulled and cause great alarm and apprehension in the officers mind when approaching. This is NOT the way to signal…

A few years ago I was in a car wreck and handed mine to the trooper when she asked for a license. She handed it back and said “I dont need to see that”. That was when it was required to show. ..
