First off, yes I googled it, A LOT. The problem with google these days is it’s not that the info isn’t out there, but you get the results google “wants” to give you.
Anyways, anyone have or know where to find speeds out of the 5.2 threaded Rock barrel? Preferably with several different rounds?
Best I found is a 5 inch barrel is 1,750 FPS. But that didnt even mention which bullet it was. Hoping some article or Youtube video has done a 5.2 Rock threaded barrel with several bullet weights through a chronograph.
Likely depends on the load. I just got the threaded barrel in so my 4.7 to 5.2 data is a little short right now, but it would be safe to assume depending on the load you could gain anywhere from 40-100 fps+ from the extra 1/2" barrel. If I get a chance I’ll add some AE TMJ, 197, 198, and 195LF to this…
Lol, @Buffman-RANGE is probably the reason why half of us even got this gun, or any five seven for that matter. He’s the ballistic science nerd that the rest of us wish we could be.
Nice to see the 198 and the black Fang doing so well.
Very nice. So my 27 grain rounds out of my 5.2 barrel should be hitting 2,200 fps according to your data. That’s absolutely sizzling for a pistol.
Ironically after I started this thread I was talking to the neighbors brother in law and he brought up rifles and his .300 something or another. Lol I forget the exact variant he mentioned… He was talking ballistics and said he’s a firm believer of “speed kills”. I mentioned the 5.7 Rock and he was not familiar with Palmetto or the 5.7x28 round. Next time I see him I’ll show him these charts and bust out my Rock. I’m sure he’ll enjoy that.
I can’t thank you enough. I really appreciate you sharing your info with us. I owe you a cold beer or iced tea or whatever you drink.
So it appears that 2200 is the velocity from the Rock with the 5.2 barrel length, and a well loaded 27 (SS198LF) grain projectile. Not complaining in any way about that, but wondering if there is any more velocity to be had with the 27 grain projectile?
Yes. Elite Ammunition makes their S4 round which will typically exceed 2375 fps. They claim 2500 fps. They’ve tweaked this load various times over the years and I think I’ve gotten it as high as 2450…
