Would a longer barrel increase accuracy for the 5.7 round? Could the Palmetto 5.7 Rock function with a longer barrel?
I don’t see any reason it wouldn’t work but because it would make the Rock extremely cumbersome for using as a carry weapon, that it’s commercial desirability would not be sufficient to make anyone manufacture it.
Weight would eventually be prohibitive, but not sure what length that would be at.
I’d buy an overlong barrel for it.

I would agree it should function, if not better. Never considered the Rock as a carry gun myself, more of a plinker. Maybe they will come out with a compact model, but accuracy and velocity would likely take a hit.
More of a plinker?
I too love to set money on fire.
The whole reason they developed the 5.7x28 was as a PDW cartridge and the original 5.7x28 pistol, the Fn Five Seven was designed for it. I do not see many purchasers buying a 5.7x28 handgun for plinking which is why I believe the demand for a longer barreled version would not be commercially attractive. If you want a 5.7x28 plinker, get an AR57. Either an SBR or 16” barrel version and a 50 round magazine. Plink to your wallets content at $30 a box of 50 ( AAC 40 grain V Max ) plus shipping.
Efk makes 7 inch five seven barrels sometimes. @Buffman-RANGE has one I think.
I tried to get a used one a while back but no joy.
Only the 5.4” barrels are currently listed on the EFK website. Not cheap either at $369 plus shipping.
Yep they only make them sometimes.
Go for the record. I would put a 12.5 inch barrel on just so i could say i did!! Then i would use it as my EDC just to prove i could.
Obviously im joking but im sure someone has put a longer barrel one. Ive seen a few pics that were questionable. If you do go with a longer barrel keep us posted.
And remember anything is possible if your willing to see it to the end!!
I was thinking of the longer barrel as an aftermarket product. Replacement Rock 5.7 barrels are $90 on PSA ($100 threaded). I would pay $150-200 for a 7 inch barrel, if only to compare. And if it is any better, it would make a good camping gun / truck gun.
Considering the only aftermarket barrel manufacturers for the FN Five Seven Threaded Barrels ( EFK & Jarvis ) each charge more than $350 for a barrel, I don’t believe there would be enough demand for a Rock 7 inch barrel for any manufacturer to make such a barrel and if they did, it would cost at least as much as the Five Seven barrels do.
I disagree. The five seven is a 1300 dollar pistol to start with, and the efk and Jarvis threaded barrels have been pretty much the only option for 20 years.
The efk is a threaded match grade barrel with a mirror polish on the chamber, a 1/2x28 thread adapter (from the factory euro style threading), and a captive recoil spring surrounding it, making it much more complex to produce. I don’t think a rock barrel would be nearly as complex or frankly, nice.
Agreed, but do you believe there would be enough demand for a 7 inch Rock barrel for any manufacturer to offer one ?.
Dismissing the Rock as a plinker is ludacris. It’s a great plinker. Low recoil, high capacity, easy to shoot with, extremely comfortable to hold, fun. It’s everything a plinker should be. YES, the rounds are expensive, so it certainly IS an expensive plinker. There’s no argument there.
This is a very interesting thing to think about. The line, if it exists at all, is super blurry as to what a plinker is.
The Barrett 50 cal is arguably a plinker. There is no civilian use case for 50 bmg that I can think of. It’s only used to have fun on the range.
But do easy shooting guns like the Ria 5.0 make it a more of a plinker than a carry gun vs other 9mm?
When me and my friends go shooting, the funnest gun we shoot is a little 9mm derringer. Definitely not a plinker, but thats what we use it for. None of us would carry that thing.
I guess it all comes down to how the individual uses it.
Pretty sure the Secret Service doesn’t view it as a plinker.
I’m sure a plinker is any weapon you enjoy shooting a lot. The Rock makes a great plinker. However, when someone is considering the purchase of a weapon for plinking, obviously both the cost of the weapon and the cost and availability of ammo are important considerations.
Since the Rock, while not as expensive as a Five Seven or an AR57 still chambers the 5.7x28, it is pricy to fire a lot of rounds and they are not normally available at your LGS.
The economy being what it is, will enough Rock owners want to plink with their Rocks with a 7 inch barrel to make it profitable enough for a manufacturer to produce it at a cost owners would be willing to pay ?. I have my doubts, but have been wrong many times before.
I’d buy one but wouldn’t pay more than $150. I would prefer to pay $100 for it.
Sure they do
