i never heard of it until today, looks pretty cool but i never shot a five seven tbh… is this your competition pistol??

also im super super serious about a 10.5" ar10 i think everyone wants one and is the number one selling springfield product

i dont shootcompetively at all so no not my competition pistol. They shoot real smooth (that caliber)

as for the ar10, well i built one with a 10.5 barrel and love it. so much so im planning on selling my full length ar10 in 308

i want to build a 12.5 inch AR-10. i believe shorter than that with a 30 cal isnt enough.
i also just got the back in stock 5.7 e mail. if i had gone to the bank and put some more money in …

has the ammo been under a buck each?

Any idea of there’s a compact in the works, or if that’s even possible? Will the round/magwell size and the barrel ballistics will allow for a smaller 5-7 or will they need to be full size?

i’ve not heard any scuttlebut about a compact version.

that said, i can see shortening the grip, but that does lower capacity, and idk about you but i love the idea of walking around concealed carrying 24-25 rounds in one mag.

barrel length, ive not done any studying or investigation about the ballistics and the need or no need for a certain length of barrel. that said, lets just say that you can shorten it to 3.5 inches. that said, theres yourcompact model barrel.

so say drop mag /grip length down to a capacity of 14-15 rounds, and a 3.5 inch barrel and you have a compact. you wont ever be able to narrow the grip area unfortunateyl due to the size of the rounds obviously

I’d be fine with the width staying the same. I’m personally not a fan of the single stacks. My fat paws like having a thicker grip. Hopefully once the caliber seems to catch on for sure, we’ll see some new innovations.

there are more out there. cmmg has a banshee out there which is like a ar9 but in 5.7 and KelTek has an interesting 5.7 pistol out now too, it uses ps90 mags, and of course we know of the ruger pistol, and the Rock, and the PS90 and the original FN FiveseveN pistol, and the AR Upper that psa had on sale earlier this week that is a 5.7 upper that uses ps90 mags as well from AR57. so there are quite a few out there now thankfully. im excited too to see where the round finally goes now that its gaining on popularity. when ifirst bought my FN FiveseveN back oh some 10-12 years ago, there was hardly anything out there variety wise, and finding ammo was a chore. so glad to see variety there too now.

as to single stacks, i dont think we’ll ever have to worry about that with the 5.7 round. but because it is longer it gives that elongated grip some which makes it more narrow than some i suppose.

Diamondback has a nice little 5-7 platform too. Really thin profile and I believe roller delayed. They’ve got one at the pawn shop I use for my ffl and I’ve been wanting to snatch it up.

i forgot about that one. i had looked at it once and made a mental note that i need to pick one up then forgot about it entirely to the point that all i remember now is i wanted one. i need to go research it again lol

lol I can relate. I basically don’t remember anything I don’t set a reminder for at this point. If you pick one up and put some rounds through it, let me know what you think please.

yeah i used to have a pretty good memory, but ever since i’ve had cancer and been on chemo my memory’s kinda been shot to crud.

I will definately let you and everyone else by posting what i think on the other 5.7 weapons i pick up as i get them. I think i do want to expand that line of my collection and possibly shrink some others. I already am getting ready to purge about 6 AR’s, both 15’s and 10’s here soon. Slowly we’ll see how things go with that and then decide what to do next.

I’m not @GamecockOperator but I own the dbx-57, it’s honestly the best 5.7 large platform you can get into for less than 1300 bucks. Everyone I’ve ever had fire it has fallen in love with it. It’s gas operated, not roller delayed. Fully decked out with all the goodies that it needs plus a full magazine it runs around 4.5 pounds maybe.

As far as ‘catching on’ it’s a NATO standard round, not sure how much more “caught on” it needs to be, lol.

As far as ‘compact’ goes, it’s pretty much not going to happen, you’d need some HOT ammo to get it to perform well out of a barrel less than 4.5 inches. 5.7 rounds operate primarily on tumbling, not expansion, and good tumbling performance mostly happens at 2000 FPS or greater. Shorter barrel = less velocity = less likely to tumble on impact. Honestly, the pistols available for it are already so light that I find them incredibly easy to cc, and have done so with both the FN and Ruger, just need a holster setup for the rock and I will likely end up using it as well.

And things are getting interesting. Ruger just dropped the LC Carbine in 5.7x28. Uses Ruger 20 rd mags, 16.25" threaded barrel, and a folding stock.

Felix you just cost me another grand! I do believe the rock magazines will run in these… Makes an appealing pairing.

is it using the same mags the Ruger 57 uses? Cause then its dangerous to my budget
