Over the last few days approximately 800 people have received “disapproval” letters, as they call them, for their Form 1 Suppressor builds.
Apparently, just owning pieces and parts now shows intent, and because of that, the AFT consideres these things actually suppressors. People with legitimate solvent traps without any holes or shenanigans, people with Maglite tubes, even people with a solid chunk of bar stock and DOM tubing, are now considered to be in possession of illegal suppressors.
The AFT has referred these legal applicants to their respective local field offices for a friendly AFT visit, and some good old fashioned confiscation of suppressor materials, that aren’t yet suppressors. Hide your dogs, and probably your wife and kids too.
This is where we’re at now.
This has been your Minority Report for the day. FJB
The blanket denial is messed up. Im 3 weeks shy of one year on my form 4 can…and now they are talking braces and stuff. Im sorry, but the atf has been out of control for a long time. Trump/bumpstocks didnt help, but instead empowered them.
My kingdom for an executive branch with the balls or ovaries, i dont care how they are plumbed and lack of f*'s to give required to hold agencies accountable for extra-jurisdictional overreach
Edit: because i dont want to cut the pool of candidates in half
Yep, the ATF is being run like the rest of the federal government…right off the rails. I have 2 suppressors in jail, one for 13 months, the other 7 months. I’d really like to buy another one but, there is no way I am tying up anymore $ until I get at least one of them in hand. I believe that this stall is being done intentionally. If they can’t ban suppressors, they will just make it difficult to get by dragging out the approval process. WHY isn’t the approval process the same as buying a damn gun? If you can legally buy a gun, why not a suppressor?
I think that the rational in the NFA back in 1934 when this was enacted was poorly thought out…and childish. No one has ever been killed or injured by a suppressor. We can buy a wide variety of guns and dangerous devices within minutes.….but suppressing the blast on one of those guns is somehow a cause for regulation ? It’s ridiculous !
Same goes for short barreled rifles……as if reducing the barrel length makes the rifle more lethal. It makes it less lethal and lessens it’s effective range….so why NFA it ? Whatever argument they have….doesn’t fly against LOGIC. The ATF is one Gov agency that desperately needs a make over. Too many man hours spent on stupidity…rather than applying that work effort to legitimate efforts to keep our country safe and protecting our 2nd Amendment rights.
The only rational I see for NFA is simple……it generates revenue $ $ $
Something tells me the ATFE prefers the Brute Force approach, and totally abandons Game Theory (i.e. considerations of Reality) in their approach to firearms attempted regulation.
Obviously you need a threaded part that will connect your firearm to the suppression device, which is probably going to be cylindrical in shape.
I have worked on Heat Sinks that used shapes that are also very useful for absorbing the minor explosion from igniting a bullet load.
The ATFE is forcing people “back into the closet”.
Be nice to your friends with Machine Shops, because they have everything you need to build a functional suppressor.
Part 1 is paying attention to tolerances. The thread 1/2-28 or 5/8-24 must have a ridiculously tight tolerance relative to the major axis of the cylindrical shape that the suppressor innards may be attached to.
I ordered a factory suppressor recently, and definitely needed help with the new eForms that the ATF uses.
