Has anyone here with a PSA AK 74 had jamming and ejection issues using white box red army standard. I’ve read on other pages that white box red army standard is just tulammo and after looking at the casings i can see this is correct. I also read that tulammo is pretty bad so i wanted to see what yalls experience is?
Steel is much harder on a gun than brass.
Steel vs Brass is a tired old story.
Some swear “Never run steel in my gun”
Others will say they ONLY run steel.
There are many OPINIONS out there.
There is little to no science to support the claim of one type of ammo over another.
As a firearms enthusiast……you will learn a lot of knowledge and experience by experimenting with different types and manufacturers of ammo.
There are advantages to either type……and in using them….YOU will determine what is best for YOU.
The advise of the firearms community is valuable…but this tired old argument of mine is better than yours has little to no tangible support….simply opinion.
Look for some science or tangible proof of these claims.
You are really better off experimenting with different types of ammunition until you find what your rifle likes best……no matter who manufactures it….or what it’s made out of.
Good luck……
Here is a good article on it.
A few highlights:
Steel is cheaper to produce.
Brass is reloadable
Steel isn’t as malleable.
Brass has more lubricity.
Both work in guns, Steel perhaps better in short stroke piston guns.
Hey thanks guys, this isnt really about steel vs brass. All i shoot is steel through this rifle and i just got it back from repair after 6 months of waiting. I’m just wondering what other peoples experience with tulammo 5.45x39 is.
Tula is garbage. Bollocks even. Doo doos, if you will.
That’s why it’s the only steel-cased brand i use lol
If Red Army is indeed repackaged Tula, I will buy it from now on.
Do you ever has issues with it?
Sometimes. It is under gassed, and the 62gr rounds have harder primers than the 55gr.
Yup! Came here to ask the exact same question. As of Nov 2022 when I got my rifle it still can’t reliably eat Tulammo. Which. Sucks. I’m replacing the hammer spring with a Geissele to see if that alleviates the primer problem it the rifle is still woefully under gassed. Is this an issue PSA can fix? Like if I send it back will they open the gas Oort a smidge?
PSA has a Lifetime Guarantee. If you have a problem - contact Customer Service. (Which admittedly can be tedious on occasion)
I have run steel through all my AK-74 and 47’s without ever any issues.
Mostly Wolf, Russian Surplus, Brown and Silver Bear. Not as Much Tula, but I have shot several hundred rounds of it with no issue.
I only run steel in AK’s.
Hmmm… Well I’d expect a good AK to be able to manage Tula, but with that said, I’ve always preferred Wolff and Golden Tiger ammo over Tula, or Red Army.
Sucks that 7N6 is no longer available.
I agree. My com bloc 47’s chug through ANYTHING. Sucks that the PSAK74 is “picky” with ammo. Pretty disappointed in the rifle tbh.
I got into 74’s in the mid 90’s. I have 2 Arsenal’s and some kits from Polish and Bulgarian.
Probably my favorite rifles. I stocked up on the 7N6 way before Obama banned it.
A nickel a round. Still sealed in the cans.
