So just got a GF3 14.7 pin and weld kit and got everything assembled and took it out to the range and it seems that either the firing pin is out of spec or the Bolt that came with it is out of spec. Would get through about 25 rounds and would start to get light primer strikes. Upon further inspection and opening up the Bolt/pin, it seems that metal fragments from the primer are getting stuck inside the FCG. I was able to clear it out and go about another 10 rounds and same thing. I tried multiple types of ammo including Tula and wolf steel, Maxtech lacquered, and even some maxtech brass. Same issue regardless of ammo, after the 4th time I start the RMA process but im curious to see if anyone else has had a similar issue with their GF3’s. Over all, the rifle runs amazing outside of this issue. Literally softest firing gun I own which is awesome since it’ll eventually be a suppressor host.
Also noticed some issues of the BC jumping the rails without cover. Help? Im hoping its just a minor firing pin issue with an easy swap but im curious to hear what all of you think.
Yeah yours looks way more flush. Submitted a warranty claim but im not trying to send in the entire gun. Going to swap to a surplus SS pin to see if that corrects the issue.
There is allot that could be speculated but you already starting the return process, the smartest move. Use you photos to ID any changes to the weapon when returned, I doubt you’ll get the full reason why. When returned “repaired” repeat the exact same conditions that revealed the problem.
Literally brand new. Ran about 60 rounds through it before it started happening. Still waiting to hear from PSA on the RMA but I still plan on trying a pin swap beforehand.
I wouldn’t break it down the suspect part at this point. If you had access to an entire bolt group swap, id try that. I’d Just box it up fir return, keep bugging PSA, and in the meantime shoot something else.
So for comparison, I tried to take the same photo of my BCG to see if I noticed any side by side differences. It seems the pin in mine is setting much further back than the pin on your bcg. Think we may have got our culprit. We will see what PSA says
That would explain your light primer strikes, and then your extreme punching out the primer.
Best to leave as is and send to PSA when they get back to you. If you don’t hear back within a few business days, it’s possible a moderator here could help.
So because I’m impatient, went ahead and did the pin swap to surplus pin. Tested 400+ rounds of various ammo types and she runs flawlessly now without a single malfunction. Looks like the pin that came with the GF3 was slightly out of spec (just a hair longer). Just wanted to report the good news! Thanks for the help!
