Constantly taking it on and off, along with the fact a direct thread can will come lose, you have the added chance of stripping the threads.
I was talking to the guy still using a booster, that will ruin the threads.
Ah, gotcha. New to the suppressor scene. Eagerly awaiting my Rugged Obsidian.
Anyone know about the AK-V threads? 1/2-28 or 1/2-36??
@Dfreedom not sure which barrel length you have but the description on this one says 1/2x28.

Copy that. Meant to specify AR-V, my bad. I
Running a Mystic x on my akv. Using the lo pro fixed adapter. Not using a locknut since no problem with alignment.
Haven’t had any problems with direct thread backing off on the V or when running same suppressor on my ar’s.
Trick seems to be screw it down hand tight, fire off a few rounds to heat up the can, then give it another hand tighten with a glove when hot. No problems with loosening up after doing so.
iv never heard of it ruining the threads before so that very well could be the case but i imagine if its safe on a handgun and the threads are fine on there with all the barrel movement why would it be any different on an akv since the barrel doesn’t move??
The booster is necessary to cycle with the additional weight of the suppressor on handguns. It briefly separates the weight of the suppressor from the barrel so the barrel can move. With a fixed barrel the booster isn’t necessary because the barrel doesn’t need to move when cycling. Suppressor manufacturers sell fixed barrel spacers for that exact reason. I’m telling you literally what every suppressor manufacturer would tell you. Using a booster on a fixed barrel would cause the suppressor to move forward then slam back onto the threads. On handguns the barrel can absorb that force because it’s not fixed.
Anyone using a form 1 can on an AKV? Keeping my eye out hoping to see one in stock and thinking about my next can.
I will be running my hybrid 46 on my AKV. I do have the piston for my other 9mm pistol but as others have said, you will not need it for the AKV.
I went ahead and bought the Bravo ASR mount for the can and the single port 1/2-24 QD muzzle brake to stay on the AKV.
ATF has cashed my check, still patiently awaiting my can.
@Dfreedom now sit back and forget about it.
Yeah, trying to put it out of my mind and decide what I want to get next…before “someone” decides I don’t need it.
Any one else have issues with rounds not properly cycling while running a suppressor? I currently have a dead air ghost and have problems in both short and long configurations. Trialed freedom munitions 115, 147, 165 grain Ammo and they all have issues. Failure to eject, failure to feed, stove pipes etc. any suggestions on remedying this situation? Runs at 100% without the suppressor, no issues at all.
I personally have seen Freedom blow up a gun and in no way will use it. Google is your friend, they dont have a good rep. Try different ammo.
I am about to buy the Ak-v and have a silencerco omega 36m in atf jail what exactly would i need? Thought i would ask before contacting silencerco again To attach it? It wount work with the Charlie piston mount?I also just picked up a 104 with the machined furniture that has a M24x1.5RH thread pitch but im taking it to a machine shop and they’re going to make it suppressor ready silencerco sent me the info to give them. Plus the owner use to be my Grand Knight in K.O.C.
Dont machine your 104, just buy the griffen adaptor. You cant undo machining. You can remove an adaptor.
As for the AK-V, it is a 1/2x28 thread. Personally i prefer 3 lug mounts for 9mms like the AK-V and AR-V. You will need to get whatever Silencerco makes that works with the thread pitch.
When I direct thread my Wolfman to my AK-V and use a Geissele alignment rod to check, it is WAY off. The rod rubs against the baffles. On my MP5, pistols, and AR’s this same can is perfectly concentric so I know it’s not an issue with the can nor the rod.
According to PSA, because most muzzle devices, including direct thread adapters will butt up against the gas block, there is no guarantee of concentricity. Their answer is to buy a Silencerco muzzle device that fits in the small gap between the gas block and the barrel threads so that it can go past the gas block and butt up against the should of the barrel. Can you believe that?! There are two problems with this:
- What muzzle device is thin enough to fit in that small gap between the gas block and barrel threads?
- I don’t own a Silencerco suppressor so even if a Silencerco muzzle device does exist that can fit there, it won’t be compatible with my DeadAir Wolfman.
Here’s a picture of what the alignment looks like. I took the end cap off so you can clearly see how it’s rubbing against the baffles. It’s rubbing enough that it’s putting pressure on the can and I was concerned that I was damaging the baffles just by using this rod.
(Disregard the grey blob, that’s me redacting my serial number)
Here is the small gap between the gas block and threads. I don’t see how ANY muzzle device would fit in there:
Seems to me like this was a design flaw. They should’ve made the shoulder of the barrel stick out a little past the gas block. This would still allow for the use of the detent while also letting you properly direct thread a suppressor and ensure concentricity. PSA can guarantee that their barrels are concentric all they want (and they actually explicitly do in their warranty shown below) but if the shoulder of the barrel lies behind the gas block then that goes out the window. You cannot guarantee that a gas block will be perfectly perpendicular to the bore.
Here’s the PSA warranty that used to be at the bottom of the AK-V product page explicitly stating that they guarantee the barrel to be concentric with the bore (I’ve highlighted the location):
If you look at the page now, they’ve since removed this Warranty info from the product page. Coincidence? I think not.
I have always recommended PSA to all of my family and friends but this experience has left me very disappointed. PSA still has my gun but they’re asking me to verify my address so they can ship it back without changing a single thing. I’ve replied to them asking for clarification on which muzzle devices would fit and whether there’s something they can do to allow me to use my Wolfman. Let’s see what they say but I’m not hopeful. If they can’t make this right then their Lifetime Warranty is not worth anything and I am officially done buying and recommending PSA.
That’s how AKs are and why only until recently were cans used on them. Aks and suppressor alignment is a known issue.
What muzzle device are you using? If using Keymo, JMAC just came out with a new muzzle device iirc that helps with this. Personally i like trilug for 9mm, Hansohn Brothers makes a variety of guarantee to fit.
