AK-V Suppressor Thread

I’m just curious on what you guys use for suppressors on your AK-Vs, I recently bought the SilencerCo Hybrid and the Piston so now I’m just waiting on the paperwork and assignment.

Welcome to the forum @pstrong10 !

I am waiting on a stamp for a Rugged Obsidian 9.

I have a hybrid for my AKP. Using a cnc warrior thread adapter and ASR brake. Not sure if you’re using the piston on the AKV but if you don’t use a fixed spacer instead of the spring you can damage the gun and suppressor. Pistons/boosters are only meant for handguns so the slide can cycle.

Whoa, thanks for the info. Really. I’m brand new to Suppressor game, I also bought a 1/2x28 piston so I’m gonna start looking for a spacer as well.

You’re all set for 9mm handguns at least! You could go with a 9mm ASR brake and mount, a 3 lug system, or direct thread mount. Honestly it’s easier to switch between mounts than removing the spring the O-ring on the piston housing can be a bitch sometimes.

I am patiently awaiting the arrival of my Rugged Obsidian 45. Can’t wait to try it on my AK-V.

I already have a SilencerCo Osprey 9 suppressor ready to be used once I get the AK-V I ordered last week (order still processing). Very excited to try it out with both the super and subsonic 9mm ammo I have currently

Just to double check, with my Silencerco Osprey 9 suppressor, should I take out the piston and replace it with the fixed barrel spacer when I use it with my AK-V?

Yes. If the barrel doesn’t move, you need the fixed spacer. Otherwise you could potentially have a baffle strike.

@tmaycsu I might also recommend you look into getting a 3lug mount for your can. Direct Thread cans can and will come loose. A 3 lug mount solves the problem.

@GuitarGuy good idea on the 3lug. They are out of stock from SilencerCo for now but I at least got on the email notification list for when they are back. Till then I’ll make sure I have a rag to tighten the can every so often when I see it turning a bit…at least with the Osprey it is super easy to see it starting to loosen since it is not cylindrical

I bought all of my “attachments” for my Rugged suppressor from shooting surplus. They had the best prices and actually had what I needed in stock. Fast/inexpensive shipping.

What is an AK-V?

9mm AK that uses the same mags as the CZ Scorpion.

iv used an obsidian 9 with a booster for a couple hundred rounds with a akv, runs fine with no baffle strikes but thats just my experience, sample size of one

Rugged Obsidian9 with a fixed barrel spacer. I considered the three lug for a while but bought a YHM turbo K instead.

You’ll eventually ruin the barrel threads and increase chance of a baffle strike, especially with faster firing. Why risk damaging a gun and item you had to jump through hoops to get rather than buying the proper mount?

I agree. I have an obsidian 9 in jail but already have a 3 lug mount and adaptor for it.

How will using a direct thread mount “ruin” the threads?

Also, are the threads 1/2-28 or 1/2-36? The website says 1/2-28 but there is conflicting information.
