Ak47 GF3 not going into battery

I’ve had my Ak47 Gf3 for about a year and haven’t shot it in a bit. I just picked it up today and started messing with it, i.e cleaning it and doing drills. I noticed that my hammer is getting in the way of the bolt preventing it from going into battery unless its pulled back completely. The bolt gets stuck/locked right before the mag well. There is a clear rub on the hammer and bolt. Any easy fix for this?

Try polishing your bolt carrier.

It’s pretty clean, wouldn’t say it’s polished. I also don’t really have anything to do that with. It looks like the hammer/trigger isn’t resetting fully.

Polishing compound and a rag if you don’t have a dremel. I have a polishing wheel in the garage.

Any recommended compound and tutorials on how to do so? I really only know how to break it down clean and operate it.

Turtle wax rubbing compound.

Lots of lube and let it fly.

Does it do it when you try to load it with ammo, with an empty mag, or just without a mag?

It gets stuck both with and with out a mag, loaded mag or not.

Are you letting it fly? Not riding it?

When I let it fly it goes into battery majority of the time. The only issue is, if its not pulled completely all the way back itll get stuck. I tested it and if I dont pull it all the way back just barely it gets caught by the hammer

Is this happening only when you manually charge the gun?

What happens when you shoot it?

It is normal for a new AK to do this. DO NOT ALTER THE GEOMETRY OF THE HAMMER. This can lead to the hammer failing to engage the sear. Never use a Dremmel on the firing group.

The Bolt carrier hangs on the hammer of some new AKs and will smooth out with use. Inspect the area for a burr roughness, a sharp corner. You can wait for it to break in, or you can smooth out any roughness and round out the highlighted area with a pocket Arkansas stone.

Thanks @Marcel_01 . I noticed I left out a word.

The ak isn’t new. I have put roughly 1250 rounds through it.

PSA, instead of really honing their wheel house items (entry level rifles) they now are way too boochee and trying to make too many things at once. $1500 AR10s, $1200 “throwback vintage” ARs etc. it seems every day is a new dagger with “extreme and REALLy extreme “carry cuts” but this one is in OD green!!!
lol.

I applaud the idea that once was PSA- but now they’re trying to be BCM pricing and BCM they ain’t

A PSA AK103 GF3 I’ve handled cycles very reliably, but will hang the BCG on the hammer when cycled gently. If it goes into battery when pulled all the way back and released, it’s working properly.

Hey, do you know if your GF3 has the upgrade “bolt hold open” feature after the last round? I am having an issue right now with a PSA AK-V that has it and the symptoms sound like yours; I am currently working the issue right now on this thread: https://palmettostatearmory.com/forum/t/ak-v-bolt-hold-open-feature-seems-stuck-in-the-open-position-help/39295

Do you mean aftermarket BHO additions like safeties? GF3s, nor any PSA AK, come with the safety lever BHO installed as far as i know.

No, I am not talking about the safety lever BHO; I am talking about the little block inside that rises up after the last shot in a magazine that blocks the bolt from cycling forward. It can be manually set to BHO by a switch on the magwell. I forgot about the safety lever type, lol, thanks for asking so I can clarify.

PSA AK’s do not come with that type of BHO that i am aware of.
