Betsy Ross Flag
absolutely <3 the besty Ross flag.. so well done!!! love the decor simple but awesome!!
i wasa only 1 back in the bi-centennial so i have no recollection of any of it.
I just turned 11 and I remember it!
yeah, i have seen photos, and of course there was the quarters that everyone still sees from time to time.. and i keep every one i find too… but tell me this, cause i wasnt around then, but it seems to me that back then it ws much more celebratory, like people and places were planning on the bicentinneal for much more than just for july4, it wsa like the stuff was everywhere, and everyone was excited about it.. compare that to this year, and i’ve only started to hear and see some of the things with the 250 anniversary. its kinda a let down to me so far, as it feels like not as mnay are being as patriotic as they were back then.. maybe im just mis-feeling it.. idk.. that is how it feels to me though.. sadly.
You’re not the only one.
I was 10 at the 200th and it was different in my young mind. Even though political differences still existed, there seemed to be an ability to put that aside and just recognize the spirit of what our country stands for. That was, of course, before social media and 24x7 news cycles.
wow 10 years of planning.. yeah.. see i knew it felt like this one isnt that heavily planned for.. its almost like i feel like the bicentennial was planned to be a year long celebration, where as this one seems anything but that so far.
We had similar hair.
I’ll see if I can find the pic I have around here.
I was 5 - and remember that July 4th, because it was the very first time my Father allowed me to set off fireworks - at my Uncle’s BBQ. I was setting off just a few bottle rockets alongside my Father, Uncles, and older Cousins shooting off the “Big” stuff.
Oh, my Mom was Soooo Piss’t about how soot-blackened my face and appendages got, and that my Dad had not only let me shoot bottle rockets, but had actually given them to me…
Ah, Good Times! Good Times!
Haha we would shoot off the roman candles and then we had the perfect device to fire rockets at each other! ![]()
I remember my brothers and I setting off 22LR rounds on the breeze way to the garage with a hammer.
I may or may not have hit one with a hammer! I don’t know how we survived to be honest.
Yup!
My friend and I thought we could make a b-mb with gunpowder so we could break up a huge piece of quartz we found in my backyard. I had wire cutters to pull the lead out of the case while my friend just used a rock to smash out the lead. About a dozen rounds in there was a bang, I felt a trickle of blood on my knee, and we dropped everything and ran like the dickens (I had the barest scratch on my knee). Didn’t tell my parents for almost 50 years. ![]()
