I think of it as bailing with a leaky bucket, some past mistakes will require us to bail again and again and we will STILL find them sloshing around our feet. . . . .but we are learning, we are bailing out some of the bad, we just notice what DIDN"T get learned more then what we have learned and gotten past for good and all.
This is exactly why history is so important. If you want to know the answers to today’s problems or tomorrow’s problems then all you have to do is look to the past. History repeats itself and only the ignorant don’t take advantage learning from the world’s past history. Kids are not being taught real history in most public schools anymore. This practice will hurt them and our Country a lot more than many people will ever understand. It really is a shame and a major disadvantage to the kids.
I went to 2 different gun shows this weekend. There was ammo everywhere. Some prices were high, some weren’t. I always make it a habit to walk the floor first to see what’s out there before pulling out the cash but got too excited this time. I was buying primers form one guy, then seeing more at another table and buying some more and finding them somewhere down the line and buying another brick. Powder, primers, casings, boolits! oh my! And plenty of toys and gadgets. Got a nifty folding creditcard knife free for buying a Trump “I’ll Be Back” t-shirt for the Mrs.
Yeah, spent a weeks pay. but I won’t be searching for ammo any time soon.
I stopped by a local shop this morning and saw the most ammo I’ve seen in over a year also. All different calibers. No .300 Blackout, however. First time I’ve seen .50 ae in stock - about 20 boxes. Had to grab one, it was a fair price.
I might have to fly to Chicago and get them, and that could kill me.
Once I heard a lecture from a Male Nurse about how he ended up being a Nurse.
He was in Chicago and got jumped. They kidnapped him and did some really cruel stuff, like cutting off his eye lids, carving their initials on his Johnson, etc.
In the area near Cabrini Green.
The friend that helped him found him a place in Sonoma County. Then he started taking classes at the JC & Sonoma State, then ended up being an ER nurse in San Francisco.
no chip is worth your eye lids or getting Johnson carvings. I’ve been on a diet for a few months so I’ve only had some tortilla chips with salsa or bean dip.
I guess they’re brand name but I’m partial to kettle brand and cape cod. Kettle has some awesome flavors (korean bbq ), and cape cod are so not greasy but delicious.
Oh ammo, right. I’ve found at least one factory load I love, but the Monarch branded PPU hasn’t been available for some time. Been seeing Norma of the same bullet for not too unreasonably priced and have picked up a couple or three hundred rounds. As long as it’s minute of wild pig accurate I won’t feel ripped off and will be pleased if I can get sub MOA at 200 yards like the monarch considering inflation.
Chips, salsa and beer are fine distractors while you are holding out for the ammo supply to continue to rise and ultimately the prices to drop again. I prefer cheese or bean dip most of the time, but I’ll take a break from those when I get ahold of some mango or pineapple salsa. Yum!
Don’t ever start eating the Taco Bell branded salsa con queso. That stuff is like crack. I have a really difficult time not picking one (or more) up whenever I see them on the shelves. I’m more of a bourbon or rum guy though. I can definitely pound a plate of wings and a bag of tortillas with queso while sipping away on a weekend night!
How best to derail this further while still staying “on-topic”…
I gave up adult beverages for the most part 7 years ago, but found a few rare gems in the NA category I actually like. Guinness has an offering called Kaliber thats okay, but St. Pauli Girl NA has been my favorite that I can find reliably.
Back on the rails, I have been feeding my PSA AR65 mostly Winchester white box 129gr OTM. Its been sporadically available on midway and SG, and Norma black box is at Academy on occasion. But really, I just want the brass and the factory loads were good enough to get scope zero-ish til I get a hand load recipe worked up.
I have only bought significant quantities to get ready for a dove trip this weekend. Otherwise, the reserves will hold me til market stabilizes.
The ammo manufacturers have zero incentive to increase their Primer production capacity.
They are making more money than ever, with the higher prices.
I don’t begrudge them that, it takes a lot of expensive hard automation to set up a primer manufacturing line.
Plus the Federal/ CCI/ etc. chemical engineers have to pay for their American “health care”. A nearly infinite number, at this point.
“Stabilized” means different things to different people.
I used to wait till Midsouth or Powder Valley had all the powders I needed in stock.
Right now these are the powders I have on my shopping list -
for 308 -
IMR 4198
IMR 3031
Reloder 7
Vihtavuori 120 if available, just want to try it, don’t need it.
for 6.8 SPC
Accurate 2230
Hodgdon H335
Ramshot TAC & XTerm
for 6.5 Creedmoor
IMR 4831 & 7828SSC
So waiting for all those to be available at the same time … Talk about waiting for “the stars to line up”.
Probably I need to settle for maybe buying 5 powders in one order.
As for primers - I watch the bulletin board at the range CLOSELY.
Bought my last 2000 large rifle primers from there.
ESTATE SALES - maybe a good place to buy firearms stuff. They can’t advertise the firearms stuff on Craigslist, but you can always contact the seller on the side.
As it relates to me, I’m not planning to make any purchases when a 30% swing or more is happening more than once a month. I fully expect prices to normalize at a not-insignificant increase from the Before Times. Its happening in my world with hardwood lumber and plywood, as well. There’s a lot of misinformation on the economics of the situation on this end of it, but at the end of the day, I have the luxury of time to wait for the volatility to subside, so I will leave the dice rolls to those with more pressing needs.
