Hardest part for me is trying to type, while staying six feet away from the rest of you on the screen.
I wonder how much Covid19 BS & other effects have had on Primer & Ammo production.
It’s not new technology. One of the tricks is to have a Chemical Engineer that can handle production manufacturing of the Azides or Fulminates or whatever they are using in the primer, that is Compression-Sensitive (sparks when compressed).
And a mechanical engineer that can handle the automated metal forming and material handling that goes with the process.
For the right team, primer manufacturing is like a license to print money.
At this point, the concern that people might have had in 2016 - not enough demand for primers - I think the demand for primers is practically guaranteed.
On the other hand, the gun control measures being proposed by Biden and even the CDC … that seems to spur buying, but I can see how it might make someone laying out $10 Million for primer production a little nervous.
On the other, other hand

State by state we get MORE gun freedom, not less, the States are enacting Constitutional carry
19 states ( Alaska , Arizona, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wyoming) now allow the carrying of concealed weapons without a permit.
. . . .add Texas as of this month and you have 20 Constitutional carry states when there was what??? only One I think, Vermont alone just 10 years ago???
SC just this past spring voted in open carry as well which went into effect early this august. So while we’re not quite there for Constitutional Carry, we’re inching forward finally.
With the price of powder and primers reloading is getting close to the cost of factory ammo. With places like MidwayUSA and others limiting purchase amounts to one brick of each type and only having one type available when ordering, it’s not worth ordering with hazmat fees.
Well the prices are higher, but they are mostly high at a corresponding level with Ammo,
Ammo went high and reloading components followed a bit after, stands to reason they will not drop at the exact same time (I don’t know which will drop 1st) but depending on the round you are reloading . . . .I think you are still well off reloading Vs Buying in many if not most all cases.
300 BLK plinker rounds reloading saves me like 0.25 per round
300 BLK Hunting Rounds it saves me maybe 0.35 per round
I can still reload plinker 7.62 x51 for under 0.60 a round while it’s hard to find loaded ammo for much less then 1.00 a round
That’s as much as a 40% savings. . . . .so if you shoot 100 rounds of 7.62 x 51 a month you save $480 a year. . even in these tough times, I’d guess reloading saves me $600-$800 a year between the calibers I shoot.
Just wondering where you are finding primers at a reasonable price? I can get the powders and other components I need at an inflated but fairly decent price. Primers are sadly hard to find and crazily priced.
well I have alerts set for Midway when they get any primer I use in stock I get an e-mail.
Yes the price is (with shipping on only on brick) well above double. . . .yet still 0.10 a round
Here in the Rocky Mt. West Sportsman’s Wearhouse & Murdocks are the best shot at finding primers in stock and at a “near” Reasonable price. The smaller the town the better. I have a group that I notify as soon as Midway shows something in stock. And many in that group travel for work and will stop in Sportsman’s Wearhouse & Murdocks in smaller towns, and text ME if there is a Primer they don’t need for themselves.
I’d guess the aggregate I pay ends up to be something like Seven and a half cents per primer.
Thanks for the info. I will set up an alert on Midway. I’m on the alerts at Ammo Seek. I guess I’m just a tightwad but paying practically the same amount for 100 primers that used to get you a thousand hurts my feelings.

I hear ya, I was looking at the gas pump like I was a mad dog a week ago when a fill up cost 1/3 more than it did just a year or so ago.
Yep my old truck has a 34 gallon tank that will bring tears to your eyes as you watch the pump numbers spin. I’ve decided to try and keep it around 3/4 tank just to ease the pain when I fill up. Just lying to myself I know but it doesn’t make me quite as mad.
It’s not getting any cheaper any time soon. I’d just suck it up and fill her all the way up with what in the future will be cheap gas.
Beautiful sight. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s ammo!
If I walked in on a situation like that today, I would just about go broke!
Christian( great name ), just buy what you can afford every payday. Doing this consistently will add up to a decent supply. Be patient, good luck.
You can covet that stack just don’t covet my other stacks. Just how many other stacks you ask? Never reveal all your secrets so people have to keep looking and guessing.
Just rub it in. I only have a 26 or so gallon tank in my Ram, and that truck only is happy with the good gas (double ouch). I’m usually the guy that tops off when I hit a half to third of a tank left, just in case. I’m now factoring in the cost to lug all that gas around and am running it down to an eighth of a tank and then only filling up to half.
Dang, these enchildas are spicy!
