The Juliet magnifier really helps…
No intelligence really didn’t factor in. I have just had a few more trial and error sessions with different AR than you have. You eventually figure malfunctions out and it starts to make sense. After you have swapped parts around try different things and beat your head on the range table a few times.
FWIW, I have a 300BO with a 10.5 barrel. I bought an H1 and H2 buffer after reading about the cycling issues to get a feel for what might work before trying an adjustable “solution”. I found that the H2 buffer worked for 110 and 220gr cartridges, with ejections going about 15-20 degrees on either side of the 3 o’clock norm. Good enough for me.
So just another update…
When I added the Sylvan Arms adapter way back when, the included bolt extension is steel, and weighed 3.1oz.
This in conjunction with my carbine buffer, was a total of 6.1oz, and it wouldn’t cycle subs.
Then I went to an H buffer, and a combined mass of 6.9oz, and subs finally cycled.
I just installed an Armaspec SMB H2. The actual weight is 5.8oz, but the equivalent weight is 4.7oz.
The hollow Sylvan Arms extension that works with the SMB is aluminum, and weighs .6oz. Total weight now is 5.3oz, or 6.4oz, depending upon how you look at it.
We’ll see how it shoots Sunday, but unfortunately I’m out of subs.
Regardless, I think this might have been a step backwards, and I should have ordered an H3.
Definitely a learning curve to this stuff
I hear you. I have a PSA 300 blackout 8.5" I built, and I put a Maxim Defense brace with the shortened silent captured spring system. (And lots of other awesome upgrades) It was weird, felt over gassed but wouldn’t fall completely into battery on the return. I added some weight to the SCS and a quarter or two behind it. With a tweak to my hand loads it’s running 99% now.
