AR-9 and Steel Case Ammo

Hello, everyone. I just bought a PSA 9mm lower and upper and have been trying to get ammo for it. Recently found what I thought was a good deal on some steel cased 9mm but my friend told me that steel cased will mess up my rifle. I was just wondering what you all thought about it?

Steel case won’t mess up anything. That’s a myth perpetuated over and over.

It can be dirtier and cause you to have to clean sooner, steel case is harder than brass case, so it could potentially wear your chamber faster even though it’s a soft low alloy steel being put into a alloyed and hardened steel. And it could rust if kit properly stored.

But ‘ruin your rifle’?

Nah.

Ok, thanks for the help

I’ve used plenty of it. Works just like the brass. Beware polymer mags though if you have the Colt compatible variant. Mine only likes steel mags.

This is one of the most comprehensive studies I have seen on the subject.

Steel Case ammo is just like brass cased ammo, there are degrees of quality. You get some lousy surplus 303 brass case or not it’s going to tear holy hell out of your gun. I will put Hornady Steel Match up against the best Federal or Black Hills has to offer. Just because some makers had bad batches doesn’t automatically mean steel cases are bad, sadly its not that easy.

I have read this post and referred people to this post multiple times!
