I really want to build off an AR-V kit because of the mags it uses but am scared due to the number of people having feeding problems with them. It seems like the rounds are not lining up with chamber and the brass gets gouged on the bottom of the chamber mouth and the case head gets cut by the bottom lip of the recessed bolt face. Is it and easy fix and how does PSA warrantee that when you supply the barrel, recoil system and build it your self? I would just buy a complete gun but I would replace the barrel, handguard, trigger, buffer anyway. This would be for PCC matches and it needs to be reliable with flat points and hollow points. The reason why is I get that ammo for free to train with.
I built my AR-V and it is fine. Keep in mind for every 1 you hear of having an issue hundreds, if not thousands went out the door just fine. Many of the issues with an AR9 type platform IMO are from folks that dont realize how different blowback is from direct impingement.
The feed cone on the barrel is going to affect ammo. If you want it to eat anything, i recommend a barrel from Rudy at Macon Armory.
Thank you. There are no pictures of the barrel on his website. I wonder what the chamber looks like and what they have done to make it feed so well.
Its the way he does the feedcone and then polishes it. Rudy is THE GUY when it comes to PCC’s. Super cool guy.

Thank you. You are the Man! Are you a PSA rep?
I dont work for PSA or JJE Capital (the parent company). Just a volunteer mod here. Our PSA reps have “PSA” in their username. Mods have a little shield by their username.
This place exists so that hopefully questions such as yours can be answered by knowledgeable people, and thankfully this forum has grown with lots of such folks. ![]()
I can see why that will eat anything! Seems most of the aftermarket barrels have a way more generous cut on the feedcone than the PSA barrel.
Did you also use their deadblow buffer?
Talked with Rudy this AM, he is definitely THE GUY. He offers a re-profiling service which I may have done to my PSA barrel. Only 90.00
Good deal!
I finally got my AR-V. I bought it as complete pistol since the price was almost the same as the kit. The good is it works. Feeds flat nose, hollow points and ball ammo. The bad is the bolt hold open barely works. A slight bump or touch the bolt release and it goes. Also there was a lot of trigger slap when firing. The hammer was smashing the disconnector when the bolt recoiled to the rear. I replaced the 5.5 oz buffer with a 7.9 oz and the problem went away and the recoil felt much softer. Also CZ scorpion mags work but will not feed hollow points, FMJ is okay though. Not a bid deal as I’m going to replace most of the parts and make it a competition PCC.
