AR-V hates JHP

Have not found a thread about this specific FTF. My ARV absolutely hates anything that is not roumd nose FMJ. I tried two Federal variations of JHP, Sig JHP, and Winchester flat nose. All fail to feed and jam the bullet further down into the case. First round loads with no problem. Second round is a maybe but have never made it past two rounds.

I am not a PCC expert and know just enough to get me in trouble. Contacted CS via chat and the rep’s answer was “run only round nose FMJ ammo.”

Has anyone else had this problem? Sorry, I do not have a picture of the failures, yet.

Known issue with PCC’s. The only barrels i have ever seen run everything is ones customized by Rudy at Macon Armory.

Except it isn’t.
My AK-V runs JHP with no problems as do my two PSA AR 9’s. My Ruger Charger 9mm ran everything I put through it too.

Some do, some dont. My ar9 hates hollow points. My ARV doesnt mind them but works best with 147g.

With ar9s being blowback even the slightest change can throw them off. That’s why when Rudy fixes an AR9 it is custom to each gun.

I looked at the feed ramp and it looks a little rough. There is a sharp edge where it transitions to barrel. Wonder if polishing the feed ramp would help.

You could try it, go slow, as material you remove can’t be re-added.

I had an AR9 a few years ago that worked with hollow points after I installed a feed ramp on the upper. Before that I couldn’t get any of them to work. Pretty much every PCC I’ve owned besides my MP5 has been picky with anything besides round nose. Not sure what options are available on the AK platform for proper feed ramp retrofit but it would be worth looking into.

Not sure if I have photos of it anymore, my buddy bought it off me a year or two ago. However on the AR9 it was one of these that I installed. Was easy enough to put in with a hand file. You have to permanently alter the upper to install unfortunately. But in my use case it worked wonders. Again, I’m not sure what the options are for the AR-V platform, if any.

Edit : thought this was ak-v you had an issue with until I re-read the thread. If the AR V uses a standard AR upper this could be a decent fix for you.

Please do! Also, try a few of the UMC JHP rounds and see if they feed. I usually have good luck with picky guns with that round because it’s still got a decent curvature to the bullet. Used to be cheap too, haven’t checked the price in a bit.

I do wonder if polishing the ramp will affect the warranty.

Two things I did to mine to make it run smoother was polished the feed ramp and installer a heavier buffer spring (Wolff XP). Runs great now. I had feed and eject issues. Slowing down the BCG did wonders for it.

Mine is a little finicky as is my Aero Precision EPC-9. Kinda disappointing to buy something that is picky about what it eats. Speer G2 Gold Dots don’t even want to cycle in much less fire round after round.

My PCC wont feed non ball ammo if the mags are larger than 21. Magpul 21rd mags or glock 17 mags are smooth as silk every time.

The thought of trying some different mags never crossed my mind. I think an order for some magpul or CZ mags is in my future.

I have seen the magpul mags have lots of issues.

That’s interesting. I’ve run thousands of rounds through my magpul mags over the past few years. 12rd glock 26 mags all the way up to 27rd mags. Never had a mag related failure in my glocks, dagger, AR9 or ruger PC charger. Maybe I just got lucky but I have 20+ mags so I feel like the odds of getting a bad mag should be pretty high.
