I want to attach an extended magwell to my AR-V for competition, but I can’t seem to find one anywhere. It’s difficult to believe nobody is making them, but it certainly appears to be that way. I found an article where a guy is praising his AR-V and the kit he bought from TACCOM, which included, among other things, a magwell. I looked at the TACCOM site and they don’t show anything like that.
Do any of you have any tips on where to look? I’d love to find that kit.
Thanks.
Taccom made one but it only came as the kit, with mag release, mag well, and bolt catch IIRC. It was short lived.
That’s too bad. I would have bought one.
Maybe PSA will fill the void with some accessories for the AR-V line.
That is a possibility, especially now that they have a jakl and sabre variant.

After looking over my AR-V and the pics I have found from Taccom3 I now see why there isn’t more of these out there. Taccom3 used an extended roll pin to attach the magwell. With the mag release the way it is you can’t have a magwell that is solid all the way around. Designing one would take significant work to get it to function well and be solid.

@WarpSpasm I may have lead on one. Did some digging today locally and am being sent a prototype which i may have in hand this weekend. Will let you know. PSA doesn’t allow vendors to promote their stuff here but may be able to let you know 3rd party.

That would be great. Thanks!
@WarpSpasm I have a prototype in hand and will be trying it out. The prototype is standard pla but the production model will be a metal infused print.

That looks like it will be great when finished. How will it attach to the lower receiver?
It has a groove for the edge lf the magwell and a slight bend at the back that should snap into place. I hope to fiddle with it this afternoon if I can get some free time. I imagine a few small changes will be needed.

So going to have to do some work. The channel for the magwell isnt quite right. Figured that would be the case.

Figuring out how to make ideas work out is the fun of it all.
Yes indeed. Especially when known design angles/schematics are not known. But that’s why you have beta testers. I intentionally hid with my hand some of the design features of this magwell to protect what someone else did.
I have been on the unfortunate end, along with @GamecockOperator and @SuperPredator of designing things only to basically have our work stolen from us and we were left with nothing.

Oh, I definitely understand. I designed a device for giving pills to animals. Primarily cats. It introduced a small amount of water as the pill was placed in the pet’s mouth. I spent a lot of money, got it patented and found someone to handle the manufacturing. I had no idea about what I was doing and just kind of winged it. The business handling the manufacturing turned out to be using some kind of junk producing Chinese company and they kept producing small initial runs that I wouldn’t approve of. I kept telling the business I was dealing with that “this is supposed to be a real, quality product!”. So… they went bankrupt, disappeared, and I ended up 30+ thousand in debt. Every time I think about it I feel something starting to burn inside me. Oh well, life is a challenge. I still think it’s cool that I have a US Patent though.

I could have used that, a time or three…

Tested the magwell last night and ended up cutting it in half to get it to fit. Then texted the guy that made it. Some slight measurement changes and it should be gtg. I might have another prototype this weekend.

I was just looking at the Strike Industries magwell they made for the Scorpion. It rides along edge of the Scorpion mag well and attaches via the roll pin that holds the Scorpion mag release.
That’s how the one from Taccom worked. You had to install a longer roll pin.

Have you done any more experimentation on the magwell extension? I still haven’t found one aftermarket.
Don’t have one yet. The one that was made didn’t work well. There is ZERO magwells on the market right now for the AR-V.
