Anyone have experience with these? Most reviews I’ve read on the net style ones have poor reviews. Ive seen a couple hard plastic ones that “click” to the side of the gun.
So whats the deal guys? Suggestions, experiences, etc. Let it rip because I want to get one or two or so.
I’ve heard several folks rave about the goat, but have no firsthand experience with it personally. Link for those that are curious:
As for the Caldwell mesh bag style, I’ve found it to be horribly unreliable. It’s caused more than one jam under rapid fire on an SR-556 and seems to be fussy to line up. I gave up on it, but am too cheap to spring $40 for the goat. So, yeah… I relish in the fact I’m still young enough to be able to bend over and police my brass the old fashioned way.
I use the goat whenever I have the ar at the range. Saves a ton of time cuz I hate searching around for my brass. Especially when I’m doing drills and my brass is all over. 2 things that I don’t like but live with.
1, it does rub on the mag well when putting it on and taking it off. It hasn’t been any permanent marks but it is a matter of time. The company suggests adding a drop of heavy oil or gun grease, could work.
2, if the goat has a bunch of brass in it and you let the rifle hang on it’s sling, the brass can and will leak out the top. There’s a small opening. I made a flap out of black duct tape to help with that.
Thanks everyone. The brass goat looks good. I seen a knockoff of it on Amazon (didn’t know it was a knockoff of anyone at the time) but it has cheap double sided tape that held a clip that secures the “box” to the magwell and everyone said it falls off. The Caldwell has good reviews. Most of the net style I’ve seen had bad reviews.
