BallistiVet Pneumatic Rifle

Grandfather is a retired rancher. He is wanting to give me this rifle and doesn’t know much about it. Quick research didn’t turn up much and it seems that he may have been a beta tester of sorts. I’ve declined at this point since the rifle appears to be fairly rare (based on lack of information on the web).

Basically the rifle is/was an air rifle that fired biobullets (medicine/vaccine projectiles). The projectiles penetrated and then dissolved. He stated that the ammo eventually became unavailable.

The rifle is exactly like the one in the linked article except that it has a black buttpad and forearm.

Any info someone can offer is much appreciated.

Williams rear sight, I would assume front is as well.

Have the rifle now. The barrel is .25 caliber and is rifled. The tank still has pressure but is towards the lower end of the 1500-2200 PSI working range. The bio-bullets are long gone and no longer available.

So…the only sensible thing to do was to order some .25 caliber lead pellets. Bio-bullets were spec’d around 10 grains so I went with the lowest weight I found on Amazon which were 20 grain pellets.

I shot it three times. I got around 700 FPS from two and 550 FPS from the third. The third pellet dropped noticeably further into the chamber so I figure the skirt didn’t fully engage the bore.

Plan on experimenting more as the rifle seems to be fairly accurate and hits harder than expected. The report isn’t as loud as a standard velocity .22lr but it still has a little bark.

Figured 5/8ths particle board at around 50 feet would be plenty thick, wrong.

Well since your the author that resurrected this post ill put in my 2 cents. It is amazing how even spring powered pistols can bury pellets into construction walls. Yours looks like it could be used on some varmints. But honesty, although I own 2 air and 1 spring powered pellet guns that I use occasionally for indoor target and backyard silent plinking, for anything else Id rather use gun cartridges.

I’ve got one and yes they are rare and yes they can put out a lot more energy than one would first think. I’ve gotten muzzle velocities of over 1850 fps out of mine. That was with 30 grain lead pellets at 2700 psi. I’ve run it as high as 3500 psi but didn’t have a chronograph available at the time. I’m pretty sure though that with the right bullet at 3500 psi it’s got more energy than a 22lr. It’s a serious pneumatic rifle. Loud as a 22lr for sure. For it’s time it had the potential once adjusted to be the fastest 25 cal pneumatic rifle made. It still competes right along side todays hi power hunting rifles on the market. I use nitrogen propellent by the way. Unregulated. I love this gun.

Awesome! Thanks for the info.

Do you have any of the magazines?

Finally got around to a video, if anyone is interested.
