Can you install non PSA barrels in the gen 2 uppers?
Yes you can. Mine has a Ballistic Advantage barrel.

What barrel nut did you use? Did you encounter any problems that I should know about since I am putting an 18 inch BA on my Gen 2 PSA .308. How well does it group with good ammo?

You use the barrel nut for your rail. I have been please with my BA barrels.
I am using my stock rail and nut. While the barrel is 2 inches shorter the stock rail seems fine. I did note that my rifle lost 16 oz with the barrel change.
When i first got it I had the typical teething problems and replaced the buffer tube and buffer with Armalite parts and a Magpul rifle stock. It seems to be working. What difference does the cuts in the Gen 3 lower make?
Gen1: no upper fence on the lower and wouldn’t work with some 2 stage triggers
Gen 2: fixed the trigger issue and added a fence along the top of the lower so it mated better with the upper
Gen 3: same as Gen 2 but added BCG cuts in the buffer tube threads of the lower. They arn’t needed but help with smoothing out the action and potential for hangups.
