BCM upper, Like a kid waiting for Santa

I finally took the plunge and ordered a BCM M4 style 16” complete upper, should be here by Thursday! Got myself a Radian charging handle for it. I’m going to put it on a PSA lower with a LaRue trigger, and BCM buffer tube and buffer. And ordered a Hogue butt stock, didn’t know they even made them but since I like their standard rifle stocks, don’t see any potential problems.

At almost 62 years old I shouldn’t be this giddy………..aw screw it, yes I should be.

Bcm is good stuff. Their charging handles used to be the industry standard.

congrats on the purchase! you absolutely have every right to be giddy!! sounds like you got yourself one heck of a rig build going on there! you know we’ll expect photos when you get it all slapped together. And then of course we’ll be expecting the range reports as well!!

May or may not have a BCM pencil upper riding a PSA lower and love the combination.

Here she is, Santa did good. Just waiting for the buttstock and rear flip up sight to arrive.

I have a 11.5” carbine, 12.5” Kino carbine with FSB and a 14.5” Middy BCM uppers and they are top notch. I got the 11.5” and 14.5” as blems but for the life of me I couldn’t find anything wrong with them. The plus about BCM uppers is they come with bolts that are highly regarded.

The thing with BCM is they are a gateway to wanting to see how much better a higher end rifle like Daniel Defense, Geissele, Sionics … compare to BCM. Well I picked up a Daniel Defense 11.5” RIII upper a couple of weeks ago and honestly, I thinks its comparable to my 11.5” BCM which cost hundreds less and came with a bolt. I’m going to see if the Geissele hype is real come Black Friday.

Finished product, the Hogue stock and Springfield Armory rear flip up came in yesterday. Now I just have to find a decent 100YD range to put her in service. I had no clue Springfield even made AR sights, for $50 I am giving it a shot, the package shows Made in USA, and its all metal.

Is your rear sight touching the scope? That could throw things off.

Not firmly, I might throw a piece of tape over it, when I lightly rest my finger on it there is about 2.5mm clearance

Can I ask what the point is of having flip-up sights under an LPVO? I don’t get it.

I remember that feeling, waiting for my gal’s C8A3 (aka C8 SFW) URG…

springfield started making rear sights when they started making their AR’s i got a set when i bought my saint pistol. they’re pretty good.. i bought another set to use on another rifle i have and i like them well enough.

I’ll try answering for him.. cause i have some like this.. to me its a Backup site. so that means backup. if my optic fails, i disconnect it, and flip up the buis, and go from there.. either my optic has big thumb screw lock downs, or it has the quick release or flip to the side stuff… so usually imok with that stuff..

I still don’t get it. First off, if your optic fails or gets broken in a high stress situation, which has just an absolute minuscule chance of happening, assuming you’ll have both the time, space, and wherewithal to completely disconnect the broken LPVO, flip up the sights, and acquire your target with them is just completely ridiculous IMO.

Offset irons at 45 degrees I could understand, even though I still think the chances of needing them are so insanely low it’s not worth carrying the extra few ounces. But to have them UNDER the optic? Don’t get it, never will get it.

That’s why the Canadians set the C7 and C8 up with a fixed BUIS - if the Elcan breaks rip it off and drive on with no further futzing even though BUIS is at front of upper. (Ours is modeled after a friend’s Rockpile setup where he plunked the fixed at the rear with a private-purchase Eotech up-front.)

I’m not talking military application or use, though. And even if I were, I still stand by the assertion there are better ways for backup sighting options than underneath and blocked by the main optic.

Okay fella, calm down.

I n Germany I was on a Capital Game Hunt for Mufflon (Big Horn Sheep) and my scope fogged, couldn’t see crap. In my pack I had a back up zeroed scope and did a switch on my rifle, four hours I had a pretty nifty Ram.

I also don’t plan on ever going back to Iraq, or even outside the USA again, so stress will be very low in any situation for the rest of my life (fingers crossed).

But I almost always have a contingency plan in everything I do, from hunting, shooting or just things around my home, like cooking a meal, no matter how simple or complicated, there will always be options …..like a flip up sight under my QR scope, and porkchops if I burn the chicken.

No need for your first sentence. It was a legitimate question and not an attack.

Still one that hasn’t really been answered. It doesn’t seem efficient at all to have BUIs under a LPVO, especially if they’re touching, and even further moreso if you agree that you’re very unlikely to see that stressful of a situation. You’re free to do you, the things you do don’t have to make sense.

To each their own. Let’s move on.
