Better Communication with the Public

I love PSA, and they have made some excellent products. Love the pro 2A mission statement as well. My issue is that, for years, they have tantalized me with some great product ideas. They have obviously done a lot of engineering work that cost beau coup bucks., but the communication on product releases has been extremely poor. We’ve all been waiting for products like the PSA-5, JAKL, and DAGR, but years go by and we hear little. I have read speculation, on this forum, that the PSA-5 has become too expensive for them to produce at the price point they wanted, but PSA says nothing. Is this product dead? I’m ok, and will be a little disappointed, but let us know what is happening. Maybe the jury is out still, but tell your fans. The last thing I heard was, “it may be on Dec. 31st, but it will be 2020.”

The JAKL has been promised for some time. I’ve been drooling. It was promised repeatedly, but nothing on issues, or further delays. It just never appears for sale, much less any shipping date. Last I heard on it was May, sometime. That didn’t happen, and there is no new information from PSA.

They did get the DAGR sold in the fall. I’m not sure how many units were sold, but reviews have been far and few between. The public hasn’t seen one more go up for sale. No reason why. If it is COVID, I understand, but tell you customers. It is hard to understand why COVID is playing a role this late in the game, but I’m open to any excuse. Just tell your customers what is going on. Give us some sort of realistic expectation. We can take it, and you guys may just get help from where you least expect it.

Your customers will understand. We want you to succeed. I, for one, just want more updates. I saved money for the JAKL, but other stuff came up while waiting. A Benelli M4. I’m saving up again, and will jump on any of these products the moment I have notice they are for sale. Just communicate with us. Now, all you guys can jump on me and tell me why I’m so wrong. I will still buy PSA products. Lowers in particular. The DD guys get pissed every time I say I can build a “just as good AR” with a PSA lower. It just seems like your in house new designs never materialize.

You can look around this forum and see posts from @Josiah_PSA where he has confirmed all are still happening and are in the works. The dagger has been selling for a few weeks now. Demand is really high so it sells out fast.

I think an opportunity is a series of teaser videos via the YouTube channel. That would be a great way to communicate progess without giving specific dates or undeliverable expectations.

No words, just video of the guns in various states of the manufacturing process.

If it’s a model still in the testing phase, show one being tested with different ammo, show it from different angles. Just enough to identify what it is. If there’s a failure, show the guys grouping around it, pointing at and inspecting the issue, and having a discussion about it. Taking notes about it, and going back to the drawing board with their notes.

When it hits the manufacturing phase, Show a bunch of receivers being machined, show one being built, show it with a barrel installed, furniture being installed etc, then quickly show it completed just before the box gets closed on it and it gets put on a pallet or shelf with the rest of them.

To lighten things up, if the process is on hold due to supply chain issues, cut the music and just show the engineers, builders, etc, waiting by the dock for the right components to show up. Birds chirping, cars and trucks driving by, sun setting, the guys falling asleep, etc. Maybe have a truck show up but instead of the product, a guy in a Covid costume gets delivered instead (to the obvious dismay of the build team.)

If it’s in the design stage, show the engineering/design team working on a prototype. Fitting different mags or rails or whatever to it. Redesigning feed ramps or whatever. Obviously no computer screens, but just a reminder of the amount of R&D that goes into creating proper designs. Have Jamin later come in, eyeball it through a jewelers loupe, measure it with a carpenter’s square, weigh it on a fish scale (with a largemouth bass as the counterweight), only to throw it in the trash and give the guys the business before storming out. Then the guys get back to redesigning it based on whatever the boss was yelling about and somehow incorporating the bass in the process.

Once they start shipping, show them being moved from finishing to being packed, wrapped, boxed, shelved, bought, labeled, loaded, shipped, received, accepted, taken to a range and shot. Maybe show a Forest Gump character run the box from the dock all the way to the store front and hand it to a waiting customer (since he’s always been a part of every momentous occasion in America).

Again, no words or audio messages, only video of the products being designed/created/sold/etc.

I’ll take that. I just wish something would be done. Good idea.

Thanks for the info. I have been looking, but I must just have bad luck.

I am looking forward to the JAKL, and I feel that PSA has released information on its progress and delays. Admittedly you have to go look for it. Maybe they should have a “What’s in Development” webpage somewhere that collects all that information in one place for all projects. Or the forum could do it.

Does PSA have a way to submit “Product Ideas?” In their contact us section, they have no way to send ideas to them.
